Do I need a re-tune due to added modifications?

Hey guys,

Just hoping you can answer a quick question. My evo VIII has been tuned after fitting a TBE, Walbro fuel pump and k&n panel filter. I am about to install the Injen intake and full lower and upper intercooler pipes provided in the kit and was wondering if my tune needs to be re-done to accommodate these mods?

Thanks.

You'll need to add a little fuel up top for the intake. If you're using a 3-port for boost control, a .5% increase in duty cycle for the licp.

Yes, you should re-tune after just about any engine modification. The car is getting a different flow due to the parts and will not know how to handle them correctly.

Yes, the car should run fine if you do not tune. But it will run better if you re-tune it and you will also be able to get the most gains out of your additional mods.

Thanks guys, I just needed reassurance that the added mods would alter the current tuning abilities.

The intake will make a significant change in the maf frequency, the charge pipes are really a non-issue. I would only worry about it if you feel your timing being pulled or unless you have Tephra's "knock on cell" then retune only if needed. That money can be spent elsewhere.

I think allowing more airflow into the engine ie full intake and lower intercooler pipe along with everything else you posted allows the engine to become more efficient and make more power you should retune not only to be safe but to reap the power/response benefits. Anytime you mess with fuel (fuel pump, injectors, etc) its wise to get your logs checked out BARE minimum

Anything affecting air or fuel short of a new filter should be tuned!

I just bought an injen intake of an E8 for my E9. Would it be ok to put it on and run it for now or should i wait and get icp then put them all on together and then tune?

I recently installed:
ETS 3" intercooler
Injen Intake, Lowe and upper piping.
Megan Exhaust Manifold.
Buschur downpipe.
Works test pipe.
Greddy TI-C cat back exhaust.
Aluminum Radiator (little bit thicker than stock)

Have not got a tune done yet, still looking for a trusted tuner in my area, but ive been driving my car around and no problems. Im sure it would do much better once tuned.

I have no clue what kind of # im gonna make. Anybody has a clue? Anybody had similar mods?
