Road Course tunes, BBK vs FP BLACK

So I did a "road course" tune for one of my clients with a BBK. Then bout two weeks later, I did a "road course" tune on my car. I figured Id share it because people are always interested in spool and power differences between these stock frame turbos.

BBK EVO

BBK Full
Kelford 272s
CBRD 3.8 garret IC
FP Mani/WORKS o2 housing/WORKS downpipe
SD

FP BLACK EVO

JB FP BLACK
GSC S2s
ETS 3.8 garret IC
BR ported mani/WORKS o2 housing/WORKS downpipe
MAF

Both turbos were tuned at 25-26psi tapering to 24ish.

Both were on 91oct.

There was a difference in temp. The temps during BBK was about 80* and for the BLACK, it was about 60*.

Heres the boost n AFR.

Very cool.

What did you do different for the road race tune? Pull about 1-2* and run a little richer?

Nice comparison. 91 I'm assuming?! Would be cool to see this same test on E85. Thanks for sharing this.

I am shocked to see such a similar shape with very minimal loss in spool between the two. It appears the two also are outfitted similarly in terms of bolt ons cams etc. Are both cars stock bottom ends and if not any bump in compression? I'm guessing not as you probably would have noted that. Also are these pulls on corn or your Cali ****?

I love my BBK Full and have no plans to switch it out but I am just shocked as to how close they appear to spool. Thanks for the comparison!

Ran 11.0-11.2 AFRs and conservative timing

Something is missing for the BBK setup because I could pass 25 psi by 3500 rpm on a dynojet.

This is your old BBK.

And on your BBK dyno, your pulls were started below 2500RPM. These weren't started till 3K.

Also, your were on E85, which increases spool.

the full is using the fp manifold vs the black using a ported stocker maybe that is part of the difference?

Well even on the charts in your guys BBK results thread, you see similar spool.

On this chart, a BBK car doesnt hit 23.5psi, till about 3800RPM

On this chart, the BBK doesnt hit 24psi until about 4300.

OK. Well I just posted a chart you tuned and the BBK didnt hit 24psi till 4300.

Every FP black chart Ive seen, they usually hit 24-25psi around 4200-4400.

Sounds comparable to me.

EDIT: Ill post of the boost curves for both these runs shortly.

ill get some charts up-

but- the comparisons have been posted over and over- a 60+ lbs min turbo isnt spooling like a 48lbs min- JB/BB whatever-

both in comparable housings we see the same thing in the evo X stock housing stuff-

by that rationale all greens and reds should outspool the bbk- and that has been proven otherwise also

By no means am I trying to discredit your guys turbos. The BBK line are great turbos, that have shown to be reliable.

More so, this post is to show that lag is over rated. Even between the green and the black, I usually only see a 200-400rpm difference in spool, which in my opinion is nothing, for the top end gained. Thats the point of these charts.
