2.3L FP Black Sunoco 104octane
What’s up guys. Just finished up a tune this week with Tom (tscompusa). I’ve been getting tuned by Tom since 2012 now and hope that I continue to as long as I own my Evo! This was one of the smoothest tuning sessions we’ve had in all the recent years.
I’ve had an FP Red on the car since 2014 but just recently upgraded it to the Black (kept my MHI housing but plan on swapping out to SS later this year).
Anyway! Here’s a graph below, I did an overlay with my last tune in 2015 with the FP Red. The only differences now are: FP Black, Double Pumper, CBRE Ported FP Race Manifold and my exhaust was on for this tune but it was open downpipe for the FP Red. Not quite sure why the spool is so close but I am not complaining!

Full Spool at 4500 rpms? Seems slow for a 2.3 MHI housing no?? Shouldn't it be more like 3800-4000rpm?
But that torque is monstrous on the Black!
Is it safe to run that much boost on only 104 octane?

I actually really have no idea. I’m not sure I would want it to spool quicker cuz this thing rips as is now! LOL. It’s Sunoco 104 GT Plus (104 Octane), it’s a race gas that I’ve been running for years now and it’s showing no signs that it isn’t good enough.

Having a 100mm crank helps the Black come on but I’ve never seen one sliding around. Having a quick spooling turbo in the low gears adds to the fun factor IMO
Both turbos are great Bolton’s but the black will make more power and easier then the red.
To the OP, nice numbers. For a street car the 2.3 fp black MHI is going to fun and responsive. If you are going for max power then the SS will help with that .
Since you've driven both black and red combinations what do you think?
