500whp was a 90K mile stock evo 9 engine with an HLA, AMS pan and windage tray.
Since we had a built 2.2 ready to go in, we ran the stock engine hard on the dyno before changing it out. It made 617whp/477 @38-39psi bringing the boost in late. It did have a skunk 2 intake and 65mm TB so that helped as well. The build details are below.

Afraid of revving my stock block too high, just have headwork so I am actually unsure where I am supposed to rev to in each gear when going 'full on'

8000 has long been considered safe with a good tune up and a healthy maintained engine.

Were you on stock head bolts as well?

Yes. My car was tuned by Jay Meagher in a controlled environment and had the correct amount of timing in it. Using a dyno on low smoothing , looking at the plugs and having the tune up spot on are all factors.

There is also something to be said about all the bolts being torqued down at the same time from the factory. Of course , when the oem bolts come out the move to a stronger fastener is a good idea.

Proper tuning will break a rod before it lifts the head on a stock bottom end with stock head bolts.

And yes, 8000rpm has long been the safe RPM for the stock motor. Proper tuning and maintenance is always a must regardless of what you're revving to.

The cars are definitely, DEFINITELY peppier on e85, due to all that extra timing. I'm a fan.
It's not even close. 91 is such a crappy gas and E85 is actually E78 (according to my ethanol gauge). For fun, here is my 71HTA maxed out.

And crap 91 octane!
And this is a Ported FP Green on an Evo 8 (there's about another 30whp potential):

My local station reads 81% ethanol. I can't complain about that.
I have one right across the street ,but I'm told it's usually in the 70s...if that's the case ,I'm mostly worried about how long their tanks have been dedicated to e85. I'd hate to end up with injector gunk.

If someone is looking to go MHI DBB twin scroll Green, I might be selling a less than 500 mile setup complete with 2 piece MAP V-band O2 housing v-band / downpipe and an external gate option...

If you live in California or some other location where OEM appearance is important, this is a great solution. This turbo setup put down 482HP/462TQ on a Mustang dyno on E85.

PM me if you think you might be interested and want more information.

I went a little bigger with a FP SS Red, which is the only reason I'm considering the sale of the DBB Green.

I completely understand you. Your dyno graph look very similar to mine. I used to miss 3000 rpm full boost now it about 5K but when it hit it hit hard. I went on ride with my friend EVO 9 on stock turbo tune on E-85 making 400hp wow! it so much more aggressive but the top end is nothing like my car. I'm sure my S2 cams don't help at the bottom but mid and upper is a +. I still have my bbk turbo in my garage and wonder sometime... Soon about to get retune on E-90 and working on the spool if I could get it to spool in the 4K i would be happy.

He doesn't seem to be returning PMs.

As for larger turbos, that top-end rush is really fun, if you have a way to actually use it. For most of us, we don't drive around at 5k RPM+ My car is super useful and quick at all RPM. I'm okay with not doing highway pulls
I do (kinda) miss our higher-hp Hondas.. they had a crazy rush on the top end from about 7-9k. Wild, no doubt.

Should I go MHI red for the 'best' of both worlds?

I would said yes go MHI because; you will get more torque upfront and would take advantage of the twin scroll. So you should spool faster but just make a search for on FP red with the MHI dyno chart to compare the spool or go ball bearing! I'm sure the power band should move to the left with MHI
