HELP! Ivey tuning experience? and 4130 performance?

Hey guys. I recently bought a used evo9 over the summer. 600 ish horsepower. and it came with a shep rebuilt 5 speed in the trunk of the car. in november, the stock 6 speed broke so i swapped in the new trans. Since then, the car sometimes locks me out of gear, and also is bogging really bad, like it has a bad tune. So I'm going to take my car to 4130 performance for the mechanical work, get the car reliable and fix the transmision lock out problem.... But they dont tune anymore.. So I'm going to take the car to IVEY tuning for a dyno tune on 93 and e85 maps...

has anybody have any thoughts, comments, or reviews on ivey tuning? or 4130 performance for that matter? I just want the car to be reliable to cruise around town once a week. tell me everything you need to know about these two shops, especially ivey tuning Thanks guys!!!

also.... to the guys who did the 5 speed swap. did you need to tune the car after? i mean the car is almost undriveable right now, bogging bad. Ran perfectly before the swap...

ok ivey tuning and 4130 reviews... thanks so much guys!!

The lockout is likely clutch related. I would highly recommend checking out TRE's website and reading their tech guides. It's possible you could fix the problem by spending 15-20 minutes adjusting the clutch pedal. Tune should be the same for 5 and 6 speed, so likely a mechanical issue was introduced during the swap. I would highly recommend a boost leak test to begin the troubleshooting.

Yep, I tried the boost leak. it passed the test. The day after the trans swap, i took it back to the shop because the tune was still bad even with new gas in it... they said its probably a boost leak, or the tune needs to be adjusted for the 5 speed difference. so the shop did the boost leak test and it passed, and they claimed they double checked their work and everything is right. I dont know if they were telling the truth or just wanted to rush me out of there i dont know. But they claimed no boost leak. I need to take it to another shop and get a second opinion....

as far as the clutch pedal goes. I didnt check that yet. What is TRE what am i missing out on? lol. I'm pretty dumb with mechanical stuff lol...

also. things have changed since my original post.... I was going to take it to a speed shop near me, do the mechanic work, than i take it to ivey tuning for a dyno tune. well the first speed shop bailed on me. they said their transmission guy isnt confident enough to work on it. So i'm back at square one. I neeed an evo experience shop to get a second opinion on this tranny swap i did in november... ugh. I dont know what to do. I was already worried, when I HAD A PLAN. but now i have no plan at all. i'm pissed and stressed lol.... i got plenty of money. just nothing near me...

+1 on having another shop take a look. It could be something like an upside down recirc/blow off valve. If you are tuned on SD the omni map sensors are notorious for going bad and causing driveability issues. An experienced evo shop is your best bet. Even if you have to travel a fair amount to get it there, its worth it.

TRE aka Team Rip is a well known evo/dsm drivetrain specialist shop. http://www.teamrip.com/

ok awesome man thanks. I'm gonna do alot of reading on that site tomorrow when i have time. Thanks. And yeah i'm gonna probably take it up to evo specialist. I want this thing running perfect by the end of the month. the only reason why i had the tranny installed by a local shop is cuz it blew right behind the place, and i pushed it there lol. I already had the 5 speed trans in my kitchen, so i said **** it, lets have them install it, its already here. that might be ending up to be a huge mistake lol. but yeah, i'll check out that site. thanks.

yeah i tried doing a quick search, and all that popped up was a bunch of random threads. Like, maybe the word IVEY and TUNED were mentioned inside the threads, so they popped up. Nothing that is only about their shop... thats why i started this thread lol. but if you said they are good, thats a good sign so far. I have 2 goods, and 0 bads so far lol. thanks.....

if you stumble across anything mentioning them, post them up here please? thanks man!

I dealt with Ivey probably 8 years ago with my evo 9. My experience was great. He tuned my car on e85 and it never EVER had a problem. Never had to go back to get adjustments or anything so thats a plus. Later down the road I also had them swap out a clutch for me and they did it same day!!! dropped the car off 8am picked it up by 5pm. These days I think he mostly deals with GTRs but he may still tune evos if he has time. I would definitely recommend him.
