Have you guys thought about using the 2g GSX/TSi plastic fuel tanks? Not sure how much lighter but they're definitely not 40 lbs. They should bolt right up to the Evo 8/9's.

You would want the steel shield for them too which probably puts the weight right back to the same. I remember the tank being pretty heavy out of my old car.

i do not think your remark was called for. most of everything in the last 15 pages of this thread is a few guys helping each other out to the fullest with a great deal of info. spoon feed us as we spoon fed you with more food then you have to offer back.

on a street car i would keep that shield. i do not think anything will ever happen but god forbid something does it might help.

I have an 8 pound FIA approved fuel cell...I could care less, it just didn't sound right. The way I see it, saddle tanks are BS so the 2G tank is no different. You pack about 7 gallons of fuel around that you can't use because of the split tank design. That's over 40 pounds right there.

Pretty ****ty thing to say though considering I've contributed accurate weight figures on probably 75% of the parts on an EVO in this very thread.

xcreatonx, yeah a lot of the bigger FMICs weigh a lot. I dropped down considerably on size of intercooler, went to a 2.3" thick core that is 22x10 in size and weighs 13 pounds. It's about the same size as stock, but the flow channels are a lot larger. I figure the frontal area is still high so I'm still getting a lot of air to transfer heat too and it should improve the actual heat transfer efficiency. Hopefully it can get close on actual thermal efficiency at my power levels.

If you are after 500+ WHP, there are probably better areas to pull weight from though.

FMIC's, I'd love to find a core that works that is LIGHT but the fact is, from all I've seen the heavy bar and plates cores just make more power after a few runs. Yes, a junk FMIC will make power for a single dyno pull, then the next one the AIT's go up, the next they go up more etc., same on the road/track. The AIT's just keep climbing and power is hurt from it.

I agree, better places to lose weight.

I never weighed, but I know for sure the buschur race FMIC is probably twice to three times heavier than the stock FMIC. Nothing you can do about that though, it's the best FMIC IMO.
