god, that brings back memories. i wasnt happy with how my cage turned out in my iroc-z (yeah, i was young and dumb) so i was sitting in the hatch torching it out while wearing my overdue for washing nylon coveralls. all the sudden it got real hot back there and i look and the greasy coveralls were up in flames! by the time i jumped out and danced the fire out, they were a long sleeve daisy duke jumpsuit.

Rear Door Crash Braces/Beams... TrinaBabe states that by removing the crash beams in the inside of the two rear doors in her Evo 8 resulted in a reduction of 25 pounds. However JB suggests that the Evo 9 has aluminum door braces/beams... he asks it as a question... not necessarily a statement.

So my question is... do Evo 9's have a steel crash brace/beam in the rear doors? Is it any different than the 8's? I figure before I tear apart my door card, gut the components, and make it to the steel bits...it would be easier to ask first.

Thanks in advance.

i have also been wondering the truth behind this.

I know I'll do the rears. The fronts will be a moral dilemma. I think that will be answered when I answer the age old question... to cage or not to cage. I will do my best to get a super accurate weight and hopefully make a how to for it.

The wife is pushing me to cage the car. I'm not sure of her intent on her persuading me to do so... so I'm hesitant to go along with it.

Fabbing a 4" aluminum exhaust for the car (after a couple feet of SS downpipe). I'll post weight saving numbers soon.

^^^Very nice! Evodan has a 3.5" aluminum setup on his car. By the above picture I am guessing you will not be using any aluminum mufflers/resonators?

No resonators, but I am going to eventually throw in the Vibrant 4" aluminum race muffler, only because the Evo Eliminator class @ at the Shootout requires a muffler.

Does it say where the muffler needs to be? Could just use a muffler in the cat location so you can swap it out for which ever class/event you're running.

The exhaust I pulled off the car from the downpipe back including muffler was 32lbs. I think it will be 7-9lbs. Won't know for sure until its finished.

I'll have to ask Dave. I'm sure in the cat location would be fine.
