Bought a car with an alarm already installed

Well, I picked up a used car today...daily driver to keep the Evo safe on nasty days. Anyway, it has an alarm on it, I discovered today. All I have is a key, no remote or anything to deactivate it.

So, when you stick the key in the door and turn it to lock, it arms the alarm (and kill switch), when you unlock the door, it doesn't turn it off, but it doesn't set the alarm off either when you open the door....it just won't start. If you lock the door by pushing the lock down from the inside, then shut it, the alarm does not arm itself.

My question....assuming the dealership doesn't have the remote that goes with this thing, any idea on how it might otherwise disarm? I had to put the key in the ignition, turn it to ON, disconnect the battery, then reconnect the battery to get it to bypass arming and get the car started. I'd like to use it if at all possible. Can an alarm shop provide a new remote matched to the system? Or, worst case, just cut the power to the thing just do without?

Just looking at my options.

Check to see what kind of system it is, look for the "brain". Then take it to an alarm shop so they can get you a new remote and reset the code on the brain so it'll sync up with the new remote.

Oh, cool....so they can get it working with a replacement remote? That'd be wonderful.

I'll see if I can find the brains. Would it likely be under the hood or inside the car somewhere? I've never had an aftermarket alarm before. I found the siren under the hood and the light that lets me know it's activated, but that's about it so far.

Usually it'll be under your dash. Try laying near the pedals and look up. Will probably find a box with a couple big wiring harnesses coming out of it dangling somewhere up there.

Rad...thanks guys!

Since this is Security AND Audio, the car also came with a Pioneer DEH-P3700MP. Not the most advanced deck in the world, but probably better than whatever came with it from the factory.
