I'm not sure of the differences but I do know that the ends of the coil pack boots on an evo ix have red on them. Noticed while changing plugs on one a few weeks back.

After July '05 there is a different part number listed goes from md363552 to 1832a010 so I would say the ix uses a different coil pack.

is it possible to test evo 9 coil packs on an evo 8 just to see if packs are bad on the evo 8?

Yes, its possible. Mitsubishi probably updated the boots for the IX as well as all their part numbers seem to be changing to all numerical.

the coil packs are the same. is the boots that are different. you can take evo8 coils and put your evo9 boots on them and its the same thing.
