Speedometer stopped working among other things.. Can anyone help?

Hey guys, yesterday i was leaving my house and i noticed my speedometer stopped working. Well, i got home and got online to look for a solution and found a similar post, but when i tried all the ways to fix it, none worked. The only thing i didn't try was replacing my cluster. Here is what makes my case different from the others: When i finished working on my speedo, i left home to find it working fine. I thought it was fixed. Today, i got in my car and on my way to town, noticed that it had stopped again. That was the first thing. As i drove on, i got a service engine light, and also my trip and odometer are not working. So i get home, i remove both battery cables and reset everything. No good. As soon as i got into my car the service engine light came back on immediately and the speedo, odometer, and trip counter still arent working. So the question that rises in my mind is : Does anyone have a clue whats going on with my car? Any help or advice would be appreciated greatly. Thanks

Check the actual speedo output plug on the transmission.

what exactly were you working on before the speedo quit working? if you were working near that area or the dash itself just back track your work, maybe you knocked something loose...

okay, heres the update. i checked every fuse under the hood and dash and they were all fine. the speedo sensor on the tranny is plugged in and looked okay. as far as working on anything, i havent really. i put a new transfer case in about 3 weeks ago, but thats the only thing that i have done. any more ideas guys? i really dont want to buy a new cluster if i don't have to. its just weird to me that the service engine light came on too. any help will be appreciated.

you're SES light is most likely a VSS, or vehicle speed sensor code. Which leads me to believe that the cluster is functioning properly, but for some reason or another the tranny isn't sending a pulse to the PCM. If i had to guess I'd say its the actual VSS in the tranny. Unless there's more to this story then you're telling us??

VSS is under the shifter cables.
