Alpine iDA-X001 Good and the Bad
I had the system for a good 3 month now. First off the head unit looks great. It flows with the dash almost like OEM. The IPOD integration is great with easy to use functions such a search engine by category directly from the head unit with big visuals such as the clip art. The led can changed to blue and red the wallpaper can be customized to your preference. ** any USB hard drive can be used to play MP3
Now the Bad: There is no support for any other language beside english. So anything beside english will say NO SUPPORT. Search is real time with ipod but play is maybe a second delay. No CD but why would you need a CD player if you have 80 gigs of mp3 storage.
All in all I recommend the head unit but if time is not issue next version should be better with language support

i've read good reviews about it, but it seems like it would be a pain in the *** for the screen to be on the opposite side of the driver. i've got the cda-9856 and the knob is on the left and screen on the right, which makes it easy to see and scroll to whatever on your ipod, but with the knob in the middle and screen on the right doesn't your hand get in the way? those of you who have it let me know, i'm thinking about upgrading.

I have one as well.. I paid way too much for mine though.. purchased mine while waiting to have my alarm installed. Should have researched net prices first paid 400 installed then saw it for 289 online.. I just kept reminding myself that the MSRP was currently 450 on alpines web site to justify things. LOL! Overall I really like it, even though I only use USB flash drives with it.
I truly believe this is the beginning of the end for CD's.

Yeah, the X100. I was thinking about picking one up when it comes out next month. I'm glad to see the original X001 fits like oem. Dumb question, but where is the ipod connector? Can you run the cable into your glovebox or something?

On the X001 there's a cable that plugs into the back of the headunit then to your ipod. I have mine in the glove box. I need to make a mount of some sort for it. Between my ipod, serial to usb converter for WB, and owner's manual, I don't have any room left. Tiny *** glove box FTL.
