I just purchased this radio and its on the way, do u i need to purchase a external drive or does it dome with one?

 

What do you mean by external drive? Do you have an ipod or any other usb mp3 player? I don't know if you can use an external harddrive if that's what you mean. It'd be cool if you could.

 

I was browsing around on Alpine's website and saw that you can use an iphone with the x001.

 

I can tell you first hand that it doesn't work with mine.

 

It said you might have to update the firmware on the phone to version 1.0.1 or later.

thats a nice looking deck, but i dont know if i would like not having a cd. what if you have a friend who still lives in the cave man days and brings a cd you want to hear into the car? hahaha. nice deck though

 

Tell him to ride in his own car with his primitive CD....haha!

 

Pop it into the laptop that you're logging with, rip it to itunes, then put it on your iPod. Problem solved.

Can you hook a FAT32 formatted USB hard drive up to it and play MP3's off it?

And does it connect in the rear? If so, I'm freaking sold on it!!!

 

It would connect in the rear, or via the extension cable that connects in the rear anyways. As far as the HD actually working, can't tell you.

I just got mine installed yesterday and i have it working with my ipod touch!! And it works perfect!!! I heard that it dosent work with the iphone unless you switch it on airplain mode.. But once in airplain mode you cant recive calls texts go on the internet or use bluetooth...
