I was looking for a car... I want one that runs on gasoline and has 4 wheels. What do you suggest?
your question is too vague. based off of your question, there are THOUSANDS of options. What's your budget? what type of music do you listen to? what's important to you... are you going to be running amps, or stock speakers off the head unit? do you want something stealth or bling? there are too many options to answer your question.

to the op...The best thing to do is set a realistic budget and go from there. There are many H/U that will support the needs that you posted about....but think about potential growth down the road. building a stereo system is much like the build path of a car. you need 1 mod to support another.
i have an alpine in my evo... i love that one the best, it has the best ipod controls.... I have a pioneer in my galant.... that one has the next best ipod controlls, and I also have an eclipse I had in my galant.... I would pick it over any other brand I didnt mention....
be careful when looking into radios that say that they are ipod ready, just because they say they can control and charge an ipod does not mean that you are going to have a lot of features like selections by artist, playlist, genre, album, etc......

most important feature - fine tuning of the frequency levels, 10-12 adjustments,
go and play with the head units for a couple hours, and bring a couple of your favorite cd's that you will be playing in your car
ps, never use the LOUD button

I run the kenwood Excellon XXV-05V which is overkill for 99% of the people out there. It's an in-dash 7" DVD/TV/MP3/CD/ 5.1 Dolby Digital blah be de blah...
I suggest this to anyone who wants a true theater like experience in their car, or who is running DVD Audios. Of course this is probably overkill...
So, to the OP... what's your budget?

I had a pioneer in my car once. There were way to many buttons. I would go with something that's easy to navigate. I went with an eclipse, and I love it. All the features for ipod, amp, etc.
You might want to consider a unit with hd radio tuner so that no future upgrade is necessary.
