I came up with an idea the other night and was wondering if it was by any means possible. I own a 05 with the SSL and I just replaced my deck, and everything sounds good. I am always wanting to change something and was questioning the idea of replacing my factory 8" sub with an Infinity Basslink-10" which I have installed in my wrangler. I know that can be done however I was wondering if it were possible to redirect the power coming from my amp which would normally go to my sub and splice it into my speakers such that I would be sending a greater RMS to my speakers. If anyone has heard of doing this or has any type of advice your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

 

It is probably possible but in my mind would be a pain in the ***... id just hook up a differant amp to it...

 

Keep in mind the crossovers are built in to the fatory amp...you would only be sending low pass frequencies to a single speaker since the sub channel is monaural not stereo.

If you want more power get another amp.

 

This idea of mine is about me swapping my factory sub for my basslink. I am fine with how the speakers sound however I just figured that I could recycle the power that would be going to the factory sub and transfer it to the speakers thus improving their sound quality also. Im not in the market for a new amp at this time. I understand that would be my best option to improve the sound quality of the factory speakers but this idea only came up as I already have the basslink. Does anyone have a wiring diagram of the amplifier so I could facilitate my installation by maybe stumbling upon a rem 12 volt already there or something like that so I wouldnt have to splice into it up at my deck.

I had no idea that there were crossovers internally in the amp. I just installed an Alpine 9885 and was planning on connecting my basslink to the sub pre-amp output (obviously) then testing out the high pass filters on the deck for my speakers. By doing that is there any way to use the power that should have been for the sub? Basically could I bypass the factory amp crossovers?

PS if that is not possible, will my speakers still benefit from reducing the demand of the amp since the sub would not need to be powered?

Hey just an update. I finished installing my basslink into my car. It took me a lot longer then i had planned because I have installed one before and know everything about how to do it. Everything was just a struggle between getting it through a factory grommet and just fishing the wires under carpet and behind trim pieces. In the end my hands were all torn up and bloody but it was definitely worth it. Anyone interested in buying a factory sub?...haha. As for the sound benifits out of my other speakers i really cannot tell a difference yet. I am planning on investigating further what to do with that unused power?. Any suguestions are still welcome but remember this is for modifing the factory amp. I dont want to replace it at this moment. Thanks

 

Get some custom kick panels made and move the speakers in the door to the kicks. Get some Jl audio (or any other brand) 6" subs and put those in the doors and and wire them to the extra factory amp channels for extra midbass up front.

There is pretty much nothing you can do about modifying the factory amp unless you're willing to spend more time and money than would be spent replacing it with something more powerful and better sounding. I would just tape off the ends of the wires and hide them under the carpet and leave it be or disconnect them if possible.

 

Throw the factory amp out and say you did some weight reduction mods.
