Broken Headlight Tabs

I have a perfect IX HID headlight but the mounting tabs are broken on the top. Can I take my old VIII non-HID head and swap the black housing part that the tabs connect to? This will require to take apart both lights.

VIII and IX headlight assemblies are basically the same. All of the parts will interchange. The only differences you could come across would be painted parts and if you are swapping between hid and non hid assemblies. Even then the parts can be used if you don't mind doing a bit of work.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if it made a difference between HID and non-HID. I realize I will have to swap the chrome and black chrome which I assume is easy to swap once both heads are apart.

Update- HID and non-HID lights ARE different so another HID light would be needed for this repair.

I was just going to update this also. I have in my hands a set of OEM HID and OEM non HID assemblies in front of me. I appologized for the incorrect info, I was told by someone on here who does headlight work, they were the same besides the obvious. Obviously not so at all.

Might want to source a new tab and see if you can fab it on.

Something like this might work.

Yeah, that may work depending on dimensions but I'm not sure I want to take a chance with VW tabs. Really sucks.

I ended up buying a set of JDM HID lights and I sold my good IX light. Still have the broken IX light with the broken tabs.
