Well as I've said about electrical circuits, if you can't find one to fit your needs, make one yourself.

But I think in your case to code an all inclusive front end software suite would take a quite a while, and honestly not worth it.

Is there anyway you can simply put the computer in sleep mode? I doubt that it pulls enough current keeping the ram up to drain your battery that fast. Might want to try it out.

Boot up/Shutdown, Hibernate/Resume aren't the problem (and yes, I can configure the power supply for a trickle to hold a standby/resume setup). The problem is the following:

Centrafuse:

1. Graphical glitches abound in 3.0 and 2.0 doesn't have the features I want
2. Centrafuse 3.0 and EvoScan don't play together nice (completely makes this useless)

Ride Runner:

1. Glitches everywhere
2. Half finished product released to open source community who make half finished skins/interfaces
3. But EvoScan works with it
4. No graphical glitches during resume

(1 & 2 above are from people making crappy skins, the product is stable after further testing)

I think if I had enough time to actually code a RideRunner skin that looked good, worked and didn't crash that would be my choice. But right now it stinks (and I did try 5 skins).

I don't think Centrafuse will ever work for me unless they change whatever the hell they are doing to crash evoscan.

RideRunner is an open source front end for a reason...so you can create your own skins, functionality, etc. You can't blame using someone else's unfinished skin for not liking RideRunner.

I think RideRunner is the best front end by far, simply due to the amount of configurability. I will take open source over a pre-packaged piece of garbage any day.

As far as PS3...it's relatively cheap compared to your $150 keyboard, and tiny...it fits in the center console and out of the way and comes out any time you want to use it.

To each his own I guess. Also, I don't agree with your Win7/WinXP argument either....I work for IBM in software development. But again, to each his own.

I think if you took the time to configure RideRunner how you wanted and design your own screens (or build off a current skin), you would be satisfied. You could have 100% everything you want, working perfectly...it will just take some time and effort.

Great, then we agree:

And that keyboard (I'm assuming you didn't look at the deminsions) is the size of an iphone (which fits in the console and is smaller than the ps3 controller sitting here next to me).

Got it working!!!

Taking Acree's and l2r99gst's advice, I gritted my teeth and started learning RideRunner scripting and skinning and got to a VERY favorable point tonight (only took 2 days to get here...so RideRunner is fairly easy to customize). I managed to not only find a decent skin to start with that was stable, but the person who coded it commented the code well so I was able to get in and start making it fit my specific setup. I got EvoScan fully embeded now as you can see by some of the nice looking screenshots below:

Very nice. That definitely looks like a step in the right direction. Any headway on the problems coming out of hibernate?

Yea, that was all Centrafuse, as soon as I dumped Centrafuse and went to RideRunner all resume issues are gone. I did test going to standby/resume today too. Coming back up from standby is stupid fast, I'll probably switch to that setup this week. I'm tweeking it up, then will build an image out for that box based on tinyxp with all the configuration settings I have been developing over the past month. I may build another one of these for a local guy (perhaps two), so having a ghost image will be awesome, just load the image on their computer and go.

Glad to see that you've switched to RideRunner. I looked at Centrafuse and it just seemed to clunky and not very flexible. Riderunner is VERY flexible (as you're finding out) as long as you know how to program.... Good work man!!! Can't wait to see how it all works out when you get it 100% finished!

hey, where did you route the voom pc box mouted/sitting at? mine is behind the passenger seat. im still debating if i should have it under the passenger seat or to the footwell of the passenger side. do you have any special padding on it? im really worried that the road noise will mess up the carpc....

this question goes to everyone as well. im using windows xp for now. but i really like your vids sample better.

Wow man. You have done an excellent job in the write up thus far, your research and the current product. (Subscribe). If you don't mind me asking, whats the current tab on your wallet for all the parts (Software & Hardware) you needed to acquire for this set up?

On the same note, you could also use the Bluetooth BD Remote for the PS3 as well which looks less funky than that logitech device although has no keyboard.

Yea...I dumped hibernate and went with sleep mode. I have the power supply set with a two way deadman switch. If voltage on the battery drops below 9.9v the power supply sends a shutdown signal to the computer and shuts it down. If the computer is in sleep mode for 72hr it will initiate shutdown. This allows me to have a very quick resume via using standby, yet monitoring the electrical system to prevent any harm from having it feed the computer a trickle of power constantly.

Very nicely done. Can't wait to it in action at the next NTEC meet, if you're going to to be there.
