check the compressor. grab the pulley where there are 3 circles and wiggle in it. if it has a crap load of play its toast. mine only had 20k miles on it and it was shot.

I am having a/c issues as well. My lights light up on the hvac controls. Everything is fine that I can see, Fuses are good, cant find any frayed wires, cant hear the compressor turn on. I bought it with a broken ac, how loud is the compressor when it kicks on?

When it kicks on you will see the inner clutch on the AC compressor pulley with the 3 circles on it spin.

you could also check the AC relay. my a/c is intermittent and i think that is the culprit.

Diag. First check the fuses. Check to see if system has enough R-134A. If it doesn't have any, system(compressor) will not turn on. then check the power to the a/c clutch, wire directly on the clutch. if you get power there when the a/c is activated, it most likely is the compressor clutch itself.

I had to diag this same thing. My original compressor clutch froze up. I tried to jump it with 12 volts, clutch magnet should operate. Mine did not and just sparked at the connection to the jumper.

Good luck on the troubleshooting.

If anyone cares, all of this is on the service manual CD with full diag I got from Ebay.

Its pretty simple to figure out if your compressor is good or not. You need to apply 12v to the black with yellow wire as close to the compressor as possible to rule that out, then you must know how a relay works and which contacts go where.

The relay will need, have one fused 12v source that goes to the compressor, the other is 12v as well and will get a negative signal from the computer( if refrigerant pressure and control switch is all working.

i wish i could post up some diagrams and pictures for you guys but its not that complicated.

Hey, i had sorta the same problem. I would press the ac button, ac would come on for a little bit then just shut off then it wouldn't come on again. not light or anything. then my buddy had the same issue as what your describing. AC COMPRESSOR FIXED IT. ...the problem is actually the ac compressor clutch but if you don't know how to take off the clutch and pully just save your self the time and just buy a whole new compressor.

i got a remaned compressor 2 years ago for 1/3 the price of a new one and it is working fine!

I'll be looking into some of these fixes.

My A/C works under the following situations:
1) temp turned to "max A/C"
2) air location turned to front window defrost
3) air location turned to front window defrost and foot

The button even lights up green when given the three inputs above.

However, the A/C button itself does NOT turn on the A/C and the light does NOT go on if the button is pressed.

The problem was intermittent prior to doing the HVAC relocation, now it is not working at all.
