so i got viper alarm installed along with the remote start. the installer told me to get a spare key and put it in a box inside the dash. where is this box that he was talking about? is it oem or viper?

It's an aftermarket box that you will have to purchase, then wire into your alarm, and leave a spare key inside. The evo has a key sensor which you will need this for remote start. g/l

DEI probably makes it. The shop would have installed it and tested it with the key you left them. Since you have to have the key to drive the car, they would have removed it from the box after testing the remote start.

The box would be somewhere under the dash near the key cylinder.

DEI part number 556UW. However, you won't find many from the manufacturer, as they were replaced with learnable modules.

Not sure where the immobilizer is.

The immobilizer can be edited/disabled with ECUFlash.
