installing a viper 5904, bypass info?

hey all,
So, I've been doing a lot of searching and reading about installing this unit on my car, and I'm sure this has been brought up many times but I just want to clarify a couple of things.

I was reading on the bypass to go with this remote starter.
I called xpresskit and they said the only thing that would work is the 556uw or tbxkey.
But I also read about PKU-MIT, which doesn't need a spare key. I have both keys but kinda like the idea of not losing a key.

which one would be best and reliable to use?

Also, can installing remote starter/alarm be a diy? I've done some audio installs myself... is there any link to a detailed diy instructions for installing a remote starter??

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

I would LOVE info on this as well. Going through the sequence each time before shutting off the car is absolutely torture. I know you can change the system to think it's a automatic but then you loose some features. I was reading about it a while ago. I will try and put up a link on the how to.

Ok as far as the transponder goes the 556u requires you too give up a key and the pku-mit does not. However the pku-mit is basically just a mitsu transponder pellet and still must be programmed your car the same way a key needs to be programmed. They work identically so neither is "better" or more reliable.

As far as a DIY.

This is for a 5701 but the 5904 is the EXACT same.

XTR; To put the car into "automatic mode" is simple but I must stress the dangers of doing so. Just ONE time of forgetting your car is in gear or letting someone else drive it can lead to the injury or death of people around your car while starting. (I know this is unlikely but fell it must still be stated). Also doing this will likely void any install warranty you may have.

This is for the 5101, 5301, 5701, 5901, 5904 systems only.
Locate the antenna/led/valet button usually on the windshield.
Disarm the system and open the door.
Turn the ignition on and then off
Push and hold the valet button, if a siren or horn has been hooked up you can listen for feedback, if not the led will do the same sequence.
The system will honk/ flash once, then twice, then three times.
Let go of the button.
Push it one time and release then press and hold.
The system will honk/flash one time.
Press lock on your DEI remote, The system will honk/flash twice.
Let go of the button and cycle the ignition again to exit programming mode.
And enjoy painless remote start with no loss of features.

Yes that's it! That's exactly what I was looking for. It's actually happened to a customer of ours. He had a remote start system and the installer bypassed it for him. One night he hit the remote start button and the car attempted to start while in gear but it actually was never able to fully turn over and he cancelled the remote start ASAP. The car did move up a little bit though. No one got hurt and no one was parked in front.

That was kind of a funky setup. I just made an extra copy of the key. It cost me 95 bucks, but I am able to do remote start at no cost.
Also, I'm sure you know this, but you want to have the ideal settings on, like having the car in neutral and ac or heater on and headlights. It's almost like my car is eager for me to get in. I have the 5904...I think...Works like a charm, until recently. Check those fuses on the alarm, because mine went out after a month.

On my 5701, I just disabled the Immo in the ECU. Also, that unit already had Remote Start capability, so I just wired it up, but I hardly use it since the engage sequence is a little too tedious...
