What do you think of this speaker setup?
I need to purchase a set of speakers to replace the stock ones asap. I have an alpine unit and was thinking of the KICKER DS60 for the rears and Kicker DS6.2 (11DS6.2) for the fronts. Im not that familiar with car audio and I keep hearing things about getting an amp if I wanted to replace the speakers.
I upgraded to an Alpine deck and actually just installed Kicker DS60's in my rear deck this weekend. Running on the stock receiver amp which is 18Wx4 the DS' are a nice upgrade. The bass and treble is very good and I don't think you need an additional amp unless you want to get everything out of your speakers. I don't know much about the Kicker component's, I am just going to put another set of DS60's in my doors and call the system done.
DS series has the woofer and tweeter as one unit, whereas the component speakers have the woofer and tweeter separated. You already have stock tweeters on the A-pillars, so unless you are planning on integrating a second tweeter into the door panel or replacing the stock ones, I would put DS' in the doors and deck. Then if you still want more bass, get a small amp for them. If you want more treble, then replace the stock A-pillar tweeters.
No problem and unfortunately no they do not. I ordered mine from Crutchfield. They were $69 with free shipping and they will send you the brackets and everything else you need for free as well. The brackets are a bit chintzy and you have to get a bit creative, but they do work.

^ true after installing a set of kicker ds65's. I noticed the bass tremendously changed. I dont know if getting an amp will solve this. Bass from the CD was great. But the moment I switch to my Ipod I get alot of distortion with the bass.
I doubt it (in my experience), it does help but doesn't make magic bass.... the stock speaker setup is made to give decent bass, but it also distorts very easily. I remember that driving on the high way I couldn't have my windows down and turn up the speakers loud enough without crazy distortion...
With my new speakers I had no problem, but than I had no bass... so I figured out how to fit 2 8" subs under my seats.... now i feel my setup is perfect for my liking.
