Coil on Plug vs Standard Ignition VIII
Hey everyone,
I have a quick question about COP systems vs standard ignition.
What exactly does a COP do in comparison to what the normal stock VIII coil pack? I am planning to do one but would like to know what the pros and cons are because I want to do other mods before spending upwards of $500 on a COP or taking the time to put one together myself.
I have scoured the internet trying to find comparissons and explanations on the differences between the two and it seems to me that they are not much different.

Another question. How is it that this makes plug changes faster? The coils plug onto the tops of the spark plugs just the same right?
I believe alot of people buy COP setups because they experience ignition breakup or whatever and dont realize that their OEM coils are just. Replace with OEM coils, enough said. Plenty of cars are making 600whp++ on OEM coils.

The only one thing needed from your ignition system is a reliable spark once a cycle in each cylinder. That makes the engine perform at its best. If you do not experience any missfire problems at high boost, then you have nothing to upgrade in your ignition system. You will gain nothing if you did not experience any ignition break ups and missfires. More spark plug gap and bigger spark will not make any more HP and will not affect fuel consumption, but will "load" your coils more.
Make sure your coils and leads are in good condition, set your spark plug gap to 0.019-0.22 - that should give you a nice reliable spark up to 550-600hp for sure.
There is no point of spending extra money on COP ignition until your stock one does the job well.
