A Standard 12V Battery Option List
After 13 years and 22k miles, the OEM battery on my Evo IX has gotten to the point where it requires replacement. Since I'm not interested in putting a lightweight battery in, I thought I'd compile a list of lead-acid and AGM group 35 battery options, their weights, CCA, and pricing to help out anyone else in my position.
A few notes: I'm missing weight info on a few options, and pricing on the NAPA part. The pricing is MSRP, because street pricing is so variable on these (for example, the Optimas can often be found cheaper with promotional offers) and most of the websites like to do local pricing. There are also different batteries for northern and southern climate. You might wonder why I'm including a Walmart battery (the Everstart MAXX) - it's because Consumer Reports found this to be the highest performance Group 35 battery using their testing criteria.
From the looks of it, the Optima Red Top and Diehard Gold EP-35 look like reasonable light(er) weight options though I'm not sure about the differences between the JC and EP models.
Honestly, after 13 years, since I don't race the car, I'd be willing to pay a couple hundred bucks to buy another new OEM battery but I can't seem to track them down. Interestingly, I couldn't find specs on the OEM aside from one website which showed its capacity as 520CCA.
