Audio setup (Speakers, Amp, Sub) suggestions

I am finally getting around to upgrading the audio in my car. I already have a Sony head unit, which definitely helped with the stock speakers a bit, but I need more bass. What is everyone running in their 8/9s? It's 2020 and all the old threads feature speakers that have long been discontinued.
I really care about bass, so I'm not sure if it's best to just leave the stock speakers alone, add an amp and upgraded just the speakers, or maybe just get a mono amp and a single sub or what. My battery is in the trunk already so that makes things easy, but I really don't feel like having a huge setup in the trunk (I actually use my trunk).
Would love to see what people's setups are, and if you are NOT using a sub, how is your bass response with whatever setup you have running.

I got a small 400w sub with a built in amp, didn't touch factory speakers and it's a dramatic improvement over stock. I will upgrade speakers eventually.

I would get a mono amp with whatever size sub and box you want for it. that's what I did at least.
I also got an optima yellow top as its good for deep cycle charges and discharges which is great
when you have extra power pulling from the system.

just get a small 8" sub and wire it into stock amp if you are not wanting to do a lot of work.
