4G63... outdated and archaic?
The new 2.2L S2000 may have 240hp, but it lacks what a turbocharged engine has, and that is torque. It also lacks the strength needed to handle a turbo.
Incidentally, how is a turbo "inefficient?" It takes otherwise wasted energy and uses it to compress the engine's intake air in order to create more power. That is the very definition of "efficient!"
No Honda will make 450hp with a Greddy 15G.
The ones that make ok power (yes, 300hp is only "ok") with a Greddy turbo kit at relatively low boost do so because they have a higher compression ratio than the 8.7:1 that is in the Evo's engine. It is a trade-off. The issue is that the Hondas can't run much more boost than that with the stock pistons because they will detonate. Not so with the Evo.
You can't intercool your engine's compression stroke. But you can intercool the output of a turbocharger. I know where I would rather get my higher effective compression ratio from. Boost.

most greddy turbo kits for hondas come with a tdo5-15g, at 10-12 psi a b16 will make close to 300, why does it take so much more for the evo to make that. i mean, 21-22psi. on a proper turbo thats over 450-500 in honda terms.

shape GSX is right...
1 s2k is crap for torque no arguement but vortec makes the awesome SC for that thing so I dont think its really weak...
2 turbos increase iffeciecy hands down no arguement no questions...
3 it is always better to run a point more of boost than compression ( no do not try a 2.2:1 compression with 1,000 pounds of boost)
the 4g63 archaic or not is the talk of the magazine world right now... so that says something about the engine itself... does it need a makeover??? maybe... but I for one love the motor and I'm damn proud to own the evo NOW with THIS motor as is... honestly think of better motors in the past that have reach the lengendary status and I think that the 4g63 is nipping at many of their heels if not dare I say in the same category...

hondas cant take boost??? do some research, there are hundreds of stock block b-series hondas running over 450hp.
rember torque is multiplied by gear ratios. turbo cars generally have longer gears. na cars have shorter gears.
i have seen several STOCK 01-03 s2000's run 13.8 in the 1/4.
the 4g63 is old and needs to be replaced. hell honda relized that the b-series was becoming obsolete so they replaced it with the k-series. just cams and boltons and k motors are making more than 250hp to the wheels with boltons, cams and some tuning.

and I dont mean to be an *** but 4g63 --- Exhaust 50whp, cams 35whp, there is 85 of your 100 hp gain with 2 parts I know its turbo but still
friend of mine has a new 03 si with I/H/E and 75 whp shot of nitrous and his best time on the bottle is 14.7 that is crap in my opinion... ans if you want to argue the awd standpoint which is off topic off the engine even if he ran 14.4 I would still say thats pretty crappy for that car... its got to be pushing 212-215 with just the nitrous not to mention whatever you THINK the i/h/e is giving him...

oh ya just as a side note I would hope that there is a lot of room for tuning on the new si's being as the make pretty much the same power with a 2.0l as they did with the old 1.6

Please point some out to me. I know that there are a few. Hundreds, though?

Hell, my Eclipse runs 118mph in the 1/4 with a 16G with stock engine parts and it is all wheel drive, weighs 3315lbs with me in it, and still gets 31mpg on the highway.

That was just my 1st trip to the drag strip with that particular turbo. And I plan on having this 16G for a while.

It is terribly frustrating to make so much more power on the last week of the racing season, only to be foiled by traction issues.
Back to the porsche thing real quick. The biggest reason that they went away from the air cooled was convieniance. Air cooled takes alot more monertering than the average "rich man" is willing to due. You have to constantly watch your oil pressure and oil temperature. My next door neighbor has the last year C4S, and we carry an extra quart of oil in the car at all times, and quite often you need to add oil. Not to mention that it holds something like 15+quarts and the oil changes are over 400 bucks. But another huge issue was that it is air cooled, and to get the air to cool the engine you need to be moving. Therefore if you are stuck in traffic for a while, you can sit and watch you oil temp sky rocket...at which point you have 2 choices, pull to the mataince lane and sit and let it cool down, of jet onto a off rap as quick as you can to get the oil temp down. Air cooled sound 1000000 times better, but like i said the reason that they went away from it is it is a bit of a hassle.
Wadzii , do you post in honda-tech? u seem to know alot about honda forcedinduction.
lemme back you up. There have been plenty of stock block hi boost cars. Arp headstuds, thicker headgaskets and boost a bigg t3/t4 to 18-20psi is all u really need. oh yeah, SLICKS. the fastest street tire civic in the world (BFG gforce) ran a 11.6.
yeah theres only 69275 users over on honda-tech but theres soo many of them who are turboed. and everyone loves to push the limits of the bseries engine. im not that gutsy soo i built my bseries resleeved, forged pistons and rods. hopefully when i get more money i can pick up my head thats out for porting.
i was always a big fan of honda only because of the bseries engine. you can't hate a motor that can run 9secs N/a and forcedinduction.
now that i have the evo; i can be fast in the turn rather then a straight line

i post as JDogg on honda-tech....
yeah i have done a few boosted hondas in the past
yeah, hondas are fwd and suck for drag racing..... just hope you dont run into one of us on the highway
or if you do, just wait for the tires to quit smoking and its over
but yeah... i think there are gona be some huge gains to be had from head work in the evo... i mean, look what cams and 100 octane will do.. damn near 400hp.... get some headwork and the evo should start making comparable numbers to what we have seen on some hondas.
i think my next honda project is gona be a boosted stock h22... a friend of mine just made 405hp on 14psi with his stock block h22... i wana see if 500 is possible
