Cold Idle Problem after HKS EIDS Install

Hey Guys,
I was wondering if anyone can help me out on this. I just installed the HKS EIDS on my car to fix the almost stalling condition when coming off the gas at high RPMs. Now I am noticing a problem with my cold idle. When the engine is totally cold the car starts up fine but then the idle starts going up and down and then doesn't want to idle at all till it warms up. This happened this morning so I reset the ECU and it seemed a little better. As anyone heard of this when using the IDES? By the way the car is an 03 EVO 8 with HKS RS Intake, Greddy Type S BOV VTA, HKS EIDS, 3 in Cat back and downpipe. Thanks for any help on this.

Yeah mone does that too. When I get in and start the car I hold the gas down till it gets to 1300 rpm for a few seconds and the it idles fine..

Thanks for the replys. I was glad to hear it wasn't just me having the problem. I did find away to work around it. What I did was hook up a toggle switch breaking the connection from the EIDS to the throttle position sensor. That way when it idles to rough with a cold engine I can just flip the switch and it idle with the normal cold idle. Up here in North Eastern Ohio it helps because the colder it is the worse the idle seemed to be till it warmed up. Just thought I would let everyone know how to get around it if it bugs you.

Question to you when you hooked up your toggle switch. I did the same thing this weekend and hooked a ground wire to the toggle switch. Did you do this too? Both modes work but curious if you put one on. My logic was that when I have normal idle on, the current from the EIDS will need to be dispersed.

Also my switch has a light in it and it lights up after about 5500 rpm. Curious to know if yours does too?

On mine no I didn't hook up a ground because the toggle switch I am using doesn't have a light or ground pin. The ground on toggle switches is just for the light it has nothing to do with the switching. When you have the switch set to normal idle all you are doing is breaking the connection from the throttle position sensor and the EIDS. Assuming that is the wire you put the switch inbetween. You don't have to worry about draining off the current or voltage because when the switch is open the EIDS is just not getting a read from the throttle pos it's just like it not being installed on the car. Mine has been working great. The reason your light comes on is because most toggle switches are a 12v led or bulb. So they take close to or 12 V for the bulb to light. So on one side of the switch you have 0-5 volts TPS the other 0-5 volts EIDS. So the more open the throttle is the higher the volts on both of the two. If you don't want the light coming on you can just unplug your ground. Either way I don't think it will hurt anything.

Awesome. I thank you for your input. I think I will keep it in for the time being. I don't wish to go in a redo the wiring right now. The light is kinda funny though. Open throttle and a blue light appears out of nowhere because I installed the switch in the little cubby under the A/C controls. Again thanks for your input and mine is working well too .

no prob. I put my switch in the same spot made since because I already had my turbo timer there. Hey just noticed where your from. I am going to out that way for my job in a couple of weeks. Small world. Most likely won't drive the evo though to many miles to rack up on it. That's what the wifes Toyota is for lol.

Really? Where exactly are you headed? We should hook up for a cold one or something. Ahhh the Mrs. car to save the miles. I (not married yet) will tend to use the gf's car is the same scenarios.

Indianapolis, most likely. There is a very small change it could be Layfette. I was there once before but do not remember anything about the area. I travel all over for my job. I should know tommorow or the next day the location for sure. Yeah that would be cool if you hook up for few. Looks like it will be the week after Thanksgiving. I'll keep you posted when I know more.
