anyone with US Mirage with EVO motor
IF (a big IF) that you plan on creating the EVO 2-3 replica...(read my FAQ for more details)...be prepared to spent more money for the LSD (Cusco rulez here) to cure the understeer charateristic for the first 3 EVOs....
how about we assume that there was a mirage with engine/awd conversion and a impreza with a wrx motor swap. which car would be faster 1/4 and handle better? and then after we do that, lets image if they both had the same suspension put on btoh cars. (ei, impreza gets jic-magic and so does mirage) then which car would handle better modded. i am really intrested in this swap but if the impreza will be a overall better car then imma go with that.
TAD Motorsports only does rally teams now and they do no longer support the consumer market but it all depends on who you know and how much $ you have. They have been known to do a regular car here and there if they could fit it into their busy rally schedule(mainly off season).
This is going to be true with a Evo conversion. Be prepared to spend double the $ the Evo conversion done right. It also depends on your resources for parts and labor as well.
As for acceleration, they might be close, although the older Impreza L AWD models weigh in around 2600 lbs or less which can be better for power to weight ratio.
As for handling, the beauty of the Impreza layout is that everything is assymetric, meaning if you split the Impreza in half, you would find most of the same stuff on each side(engine, tranny layout). This and the low center gravity of the boxer motor is what gives it a good natural handling characteristics without all the electronic aids that the Evo uses. If you are going to do the Evo conversion, you will not only have to wire up all the electronic aids and get the proper suspension, you will also have to make sure you weld in the rear carrier to factory specs for the AWD system or else any minor alignments issues can upset the handling.
Just my $.02

if you plan on doing a 4-6.5 conversion, you should hit up this guy i am on the other forums with... he took his 97-01 mirage and converted it to an evo 5 with full awd. He even has pics of his writeup. U'd be surprised on how it is really simple. Go to wmexpressway.net and look for a guy called mannydial (thats also his name on youtube too) but if you go to wmexpressway.net you will see his full writeup. here's a link.

We did it in NZ.
Everything is Bolt in. No custom fabrication needed. Just like a giant Lego set
