Well non of your choices are the best cams IMO. Tomei and Piper along with Revolver are producing the best cams for the EVO at the moment. Piper is the most aggressive with Tomei right behind followed by Revolver. HKS cams really are not all that great but for the money you get what you pay for.

Oh ya forgot about the JUN cams. If you are talking about duration when you say degrees duration is not always best. When you get too much duration you get blow through and are making less HP then before. Here are some specs on the cams for you to check out. The JUN cams are allot better then the HKS cams but they still lack the lift that the other cams provide. IMO the lift is more important then the duration. Plus you dont have the chance of blow through.

on the contrary for the stock turbo that would be true but for upgraded larger turbos for some reason the high lift isnt working to well on the socalevo.net side i think revolvers sucked on robi's car and some one was testing pipers

indeed, i got the 264/264 combo for the all around performance aspect. perfect for taking to the track because you have a lot to play with throughout the entire powerband. isnt that where the evo should dominate anyway? i have no complaints with any top end loss. theres something dissatisfying about dumping money into my car just to drive in a straight line. but dont get me wrong i still love the dragstrip.

Question

What about 272/264? I saw some postings saying (I think) that this was more balanced intake/exhaust similar to the ratio the Evo has stock.

Anyone know how idling is with those cams?...Am planning on getting cams (leaning towards 264/264) but i want my car to sound subtle...not like a mean a$$ gvr4

EDIT:: im probably gonna be taking my car to autocrossing instead of the usual drag strip...what you think is the best set-up?

For autox 264/264 is going to be perfect.. Lots of low end torque. That's what I have and I can't complain at all. Power delivery is excellent and with the Dynoflash idle flash there is very little lope (very very little), and it feels like a stock idle (A/C or not).
