Can anyone tell me how much heavier the required pedal pressure of the ACT Street feels when compared to stock?

you do not have to replace the flywheel when you change to a clutch ala ACT - you certainly can, but it is by no means necessary unless it is beyond the scope of what a resurfacing can solve. We always recommend resurfacing when putting a new clutch assembly in, just make sure you have it done to the clutch manufacturers specs (in terms of step, etc).

Other clutches, like the ATS, HKS< Exedy, Cusco, etc etc include integrated flywheels

ACTMan is right on the bearings...there are only a handful of manufacturers...(maybe 2 or 3 tops)

I must talk about ACT because what I purchased from them a Clutch kit

Let me explain, I had a WRX for 2 and a half years, I broke the tranny twice but when I removed the tranny the first time it was time for a new clutch because the stock clucth had 22k on it and was almost gone.

I went and I bought the street ACT stage 1 for driving in town, I also purchased their `13lbs flywheel. I took the parts(full clutch kit plus flywheel) to the shop to have it install.

After the installation everything felt rigt except that the clutch pedal will now travel a much short distance. I only drove my car 70 miles before my second tranny blew up.

When the shop removed the second tranny they calle me telling me that the throw out bearing was crack and beyond repair.

I couldn't believe it, it was cracked and bent( it had one of the bearing"hears" bent and cracked). I was sooo disapointed, I spent a good $750 in good faith to have a reliable clutch and I ended having to replace a brand new part already.

I ended putting my stock SUBARU throw out bearing back and ended trading my WRX for a new 05 MR.

I will take pics of the bearing and I will send a letter to ACT addresing the issue.
By the way, I drove my car like a gran mother and there was no abuse on my part.

You "must" talk trash about ACT, but you don't know what caused the problem? I think we are using the factory bearing and factory design on the WRX so it is pretty difficult to crack a bearing unless there is something seriously wrong (with the install or the parts). We will be glad to check it out for you. If you want to drop me an email at dstarksen@advancedclutch.com, I will give you a RGA#, etc.

Sir,

I have nothing against you and your reputation, perhaps your customer service is great but we might be talking about a bad part( with defect). I know ACT well, it has being around for a long time and people trust the name, but I want you to understand that when I purchased a brand new clutch kit with a 13lbs flywheel I expect some quality and reliability.

Yes , you are right, I am not certain of what could have cause the crack, but the fact is that in less than 2 weeks , less than 70 miles and driving my car like in silk the bearing had a crack. As you know, the bearing has a back and forth motion but it usually takes a lot of abuse to break it(mot this case).

I can see the bearing getting clogg with asbestos dust but My bearing was bent and cracked. The reason why you never heard from me is because I traded my car (WRX) for a new Evolution 8 after the tranny broke the second time.

If I was keeping my WRX I would be definately calling you guys for explanations and possibly refund or exchange. The stock 22k miles oem bearing was in perfect condition which I opted for leaving the oem bearing in the car.

I have taken a couple of pics of the bearing but I don't know how to post it. I could e-mail you the pics and I can also attach the proof of purchase.

Thanks for taking your time to respond me. Last but not least, I made a mistake with my comments, yes my part is broken but I have no right to talk trash about ACT specially when I haven't give them an opportunity to help me on this matter.

I want everyone to accept my apologies for making uncertain comments, yes, it is unusual that a bearing might crack and bent but I don't have 100% proof of what have cause it.

Mr Dirk Starksen, I still wish to send you my bills of repair (labor), recorded miles from the shop(before and after), also my receipt from the purchase of the clutch kit and ultimately the pics.

Thanks

Thanks for the explanation and the consideration. I would be glad to take a look at the pics. Email them to dstarksen@advancedclutch.com. There would have to be something really wrong in order for the bearing to bend or crack, so I am anxious to see what you are talking about.

I see no one has answered this. Jeff Hill @ Turbotrix has probably the most experience using it (more like flogging it). That car flies! Drop them a line if you have specific questions.

I had to recommend ACT! I've always had success using thier products, and am impressed by the support and answers "ACT man" takes the time to give on this forum.

i believe it comes down to your wallet. if your on a budget go Act it works. gets the job done for less. If you want to step it up go twin disk. I hope my stock clutch last another summer because i have no idea what to put in this car
