4th gear popping out
4th gear popping out, Brand New Clutch!
I've just got a ACT clutch put in. The shifter was very hard to put into 1st and reverse for a while, but i've got the master cylinder rod adjusted for more cluch pedal travel and it cured it.
However, my 4th gear is popping out consistantly. As I put 30 miles on the new clutch it started to pop out and it's not stopping.
What happens is whenever I would go over 2500 RPM or be on boost, it'll just give a little bit and then bam! it'll just pop out.
One time it was so bad that the 4 th gear popped out to 3rd gear.
I've just got this done yesterday and the dealership is in Alabama (4 hours away).
they're telling me that it's the syncros, but I've been reading tranny mount.
Like all dealership, they wanted me to take it to a dealership. Of course noone works on saturdays. No consideration for our times...
I'm gonna try to go to the O'brian mitsubishi in peachtree city, Atlanta, since Rick Case doesn't even know how to bleed the brakes.
Any ideas or cure?

ok, tranny mount, Tranny fork or shift fork and syncros. Is there any other thing that may cause this?
I've put a hole in the carpet where the clutch is because I was mushing it all the way down when I'm engaging the 4th gear and it's still popping out.
I hate this car... It's only really good for 15,000 miles and after that it's a headache.
Tranny on this car is so flawed and Mitsubishi engineers knows about it too, since it's been happening to basically all DSM cars. You know, Talon had a recall on their transmission but Mitsubishi didn't, and that basically sums up what mitsubishi thinks of their customers.

It seems the m/c rod adjustment is causing the clutch to partially engage. I'm not entirely sure if more adjustment will give us the result we're looking for. Hope one of us figures it out soon.

I don't know. I've seen something just like this before and it was actually a bearing on the intermediate shaft. It was so worn from hard launchs and gear shifts that it was allowing the shaft to slap around inside the transmission, damaging synchros, gears, and even the shift forks. It was on a DSM, and it was caused by abuse.
On a side note, I wouldn't go as far as to say they are so flawed. I've owned 4 all wheel drive 4G63 powered cars in the past, all 4 were Mitsu's. The only problems I have EVER had with any of them that weren't covered under recall or warranty were induced by me, usually from drag racing or beating the utter crap out of the gearbox. I was a hard learner. Your signature makes me think that you have beaten on your car pretty hard, to be able to pull off that kind of a 1/4 mile pass time with all that stuff weighing you down.

the clutch line that attaches to the tranny was taken off and re adjusted. problem solved.
Also, it needed the Master cylinder to be adjusted for wear and after the clutch was worned in, it stopped happening.
I've later re-adjusted the master cylinde rod back to stocker spec. everything is a ok.
Still the engagment point sucks. I liked it when it first got put it, when it would disengage way down in the pedal.
