Anyone running a sheetmetal intake with the stock ECU?
I was wondering if anyone was running the stock ECU paired with a sheetmetal intake like the Magnus. There are plenty emmisions ports and flanges that run off the stock intake that the Magnus doesn't run, thereby causing annoying CEL. Please post up if you are having luck with this setup. Please dont comment as to why anyone would run a stock ECU with an aftermarket intake as I already know the pros and cons.
I don't understand what about it would flag a code.
FWIW, the Magnus intake is fitted with threaded vacuum taps, and can be optionally drilled at the factory so the factory MAP sensor mounts to it.
Anyway, it seems that this part seems to fall somewhere down the list in the overall scheme of things where getting more power is concerned.

I wish I could have seen the Magnus up close, but I think there are several emission related things that there are no provision for that could cause a CEL (EGR Valve for instance) and the solenoid the the FPR Vacuum doesn't appear to have a mount..
I don't see it being a bad thing, just difficult to get everything bolted up to make the ECU happy.. I ended up pricing the APR intake manifold, found out it was too expensive and had a stock intake manifold reworked, plus it looks stock (Kinda stealthy..)
Whether there are any worthwhile gains to be had? Well, that really depends, the stock intake manifold isn't a bad peice, but I can see where it could need improvement (such as the runners aren't straight to the ports) Which I have been told was a RHD provision.

The Magnus does have ports, but it isn't a true bolt-on item. One would apparently have to install fittings and such to make it work. Naturally, omitting any pertinent factory vacuum needs can be expected to cause some grief.
Without personal experience, I don't see why you couldn't have the manifold welded to tap everything the OE manifold has... now you may not want to spend the money to do so, but it is an option.

APS, yes thats who I was thinking about, not APR.. Any idea when/if they actually release something, and some "For real" pricing?
Again, like was said earlier, anything can be done with money, but its definitely not bolt-on..

There are huge benifits to be had with a sheetmetal intake when running a high flowing turbo like a gt-35r. Im looking into this but I will not give up a CEL for it. I don't have a problem with welding on some aluminum blocks and tapping for all the necessary sensors inlcluding the EGR. It seems that this is the only way to run the Magnus with the stock ECU. Leaving the EGR and other sensors off the manifold will create driveability concerns yet at full throttle everything should be fine since the EGR is inop at WOT. Well see soon. Im in the quest for high whp numbers while still using the stock ECU as its only way of control- except for a flash of course. I already dynoed at 523whp/450lbs trq. and looking for more, all on just a flash, with the driveability same as stock with no CEL.
