not many of us have ever driven a 6 speed, i only did when test driving the g35 and i didn't drive it hard enough to get a good impression, but i guess 5 speed is good enough for me cause i figure when racing, you usually only use the first 4 gears most anyway.

besides, the more shifting you do, the faster your clutch wears out right? and us evo owners need all the clutch life we can get anyway.

If you plan to roadrace the car, the 6 is a must. Much better 5th gear. Think about climbing the hill to the bus stop at the Glen with the 5-speed and you will instantly know what I mean.
Cheers,

Cheers,

I agree with the stock setup 5th gear is terrible I was very unhappy I am sure the 6 speed helps this out.

The 6 speed. The 4-5 upshift on a stangard Evo tranny is an acceleration death sentence.

Ive driven several cars with 6 speeds and tons of 5 speeds. I like the 6 speed because it usually has slightly higher top gear ratio which is really nice for freeway driving and it has closer gear ratio's which makes it easier to stay in the power band.

Since the USDM '05 GSR and MR share the same ACD are the transmissions swappable?
I posted this a few weeks ago but no one responded.. probably because no one really knows for sure yet....and also anyone know if Ralli-Art's ACD computer works with our USDM ACD systems?

I liked the six speed on my STi. I like the five speed better on the Evo because you have to shift less.

The Evo "GSR" of the USDM doesn't have ACD, only the MR. The trannies Im sure are swappable, but how easy, I do not know.

I have heard that the EVO 5spd is stronger than the MR 6spd. I haven't seen any true test on it but the 5spd is supposed to hold more torque.

I believe that the 2005 Evo does have ACD. The 2005 does not have AYC. So I would believe that they can be swapped.

The 5 speed is supposed to a much stouter transmission, especially if you are into drag racing.
