Greddy Type S on EVO8

hello people.
I have a very very serious question about the BOV I bought..and installed on my EVO8.

First of all, my evo is totally stock.
The problem is, after I installed Greddy Type S BOV, RPM drops very low when I push the clutch in. It even turns off the engine sometimes.
I tried both Venting to Atmosphere and to the intake....
I even tried with small spring out, large spring out.
But still!!

Can someone please help me out...?

and one more thing,
if I get aftermarket intake, is it going to affect the problem I'm having with BOv?

Get an HKS EIDS. That is what it for. I have the Greddy type S VTA. I had the same idle problems when I would clutch with anything higher than like 1.5k RPM till I installed the EIDS. Now it is fine.

Could be the BOV is leaking at idle. Make sure you have the BOV hose connected to the TOP connector (the one on the purple hat) and not the bottom one (comes out at an angle).

1. You then disconnect the return hose comming off the greddy and start your car. 2. While idling (not revving) make sure no air is coming our of the BOV (you will feel it on your hand). Use the turn screw on the BOV to adjust (tighten) until no air comes out.
3. Reconnect everything and see if the problem persists.

Other than that I can't think of anything else.

I was having similar problems with my type-s in addition to fluttering. What I did was tap a 3/16 vaccum nipple to the charge tube and run that to the anti-surge port(lower nipple) on the bov. It feels as though the throttle response is better and it eliminated the stalling and fluttering. In addition it got rid of the ricey chirp of the type-s. Good luck fixing your problem.

RyongCE- I went to a NAPA autoparts store to buy the vac nipple, basically it's got a threaded end so you can screw it onto your upper intercooler piping and the other end is a vac nipple that you can attach a vac hose to. The lower nipple I'm speaking of is on the bov. Its the nipple pointing down at a 45deg angle. Make sure you run the vac source from the intake maifold to the top nipple of the bov and then run a vac hose from your newly tapped vac nipple to the lower nipple on your bov. I also have the bov set at two turns in. Good luck to you man.

w_thomas and I hooked my Greddy Type-S up RIGHT this weekend (thanks!). What I mean by that is we hooked up the lower port. Here are the pictures from the install

In summary, BOTH springs are in. The set screw has two turns on it. The car drives absolutely perfect. All surge is gone and partial throttle response is smother than stock.

I firmly believe this is the way the valve was designed to work and every other solution (removing springs, over tightening, undertightening, shimming) is more of a hack than a true fix. (but that's just my opinion!).

I know there are alot of ideas out there about the Greddy Type-S and how is should be hacked to work the right way but connecting the lower port is the way to go (for me!...well and w_thomas too ).

Nice writeup, that's the correct way to hook it up. Most people that VTA have problems because the EVO doesn't like it due to the Mas already metering the air you are dumping to atmosphere.

No doubt. I had REALLY bad compressor surge prior to hooking up the lower port. I thought my drivability was doomed forever!

For those that have stock intake and are running the BOV recirc, how does it sound?
