DSM parts in EVO

I know there are some parts that are shared between the Evo VIII motor and the 2G and even 1G engines.
Anybody that has knowledge of these parts please chime in.
2G pistons same?
Rods the same? (Buschur mentions having different bearings)
7 bolt crank same?
bal shaft remover kit same?
Head gasket?
Valves, springs, retainers?
Valve guides?
I understand some aftermarket pistons use an offset pin which will not work in Evo (rotates opposite direction).
Can you use 2G rods if you use 2G rod bearings?
It just seems like there are alot of good DSM internal parts for good prices and only a few shops selling Evo parts.
Any other parts that can be used?
Trying to build a motor and don't have $4K + for it.

Most of the 2G parts are reusable

1) Pistons the same ( Not applicable for offset pin pistons)
2) Rods are 2G definitely
3) Crankshaft is a 2G
4) Valves, springs, retainers are universal
5) Head design not the same therefore no 2G headgasket will work
6) Guides are the same
7) Balance shaft removal kit same

I know this cause I rebuild my Evo 6 engine using a Magnus stroker kit that uses a 2G stroker 4G64 7 bolt crank, 2G Pauter rods and of course a custom piston with the offset in the right direction.
Hope that helps.

NOPE. 2G pistons are lower compression than EVO pistons.

NOPE EVO VIII rods are forged, 2G rods are cast.

Keith,

I guess the real question here was if aftermarket parts are interchangeable between the 2G and the EVO not if they have the exact same stock rods etc.

yeah i believe what bishiboy is trying to do for example is get some aftermarket 2g DSM forged rods which will probably be cheaper then getting "Evolution" aftermarket rods, even though they are the same.

Its like companies charging $400+ for one upper intercooler piping for the Evo. Just because its for the Evo enables companies to charge 2000% over the cost of a $20 pipe. (being a little exaggerated for the people that will start throwing out exact prices for metal pipes and such)

Yeah

Exactly. I was looking at aftermarket. I'm not trying to build my Evo motor with 2G stock parts.
Just what zlancer said, when you put Evo in front of something the price goes up.
I'd like to see a complete compatablilty chart for everything.
Thanks for the input.
I wish some of the shops that build DSM and Evo motors would give their 2c.

I don't think the fact that a part has EVO in front of it makes the price go up, atleast at our shop that does not hold true.

Our pistons and rods are priced the same regardless of what car it is for unless it is a modified part specifically for the EVO. The pistons will not interchange between the EVO and the 2g. The Eagle rods we sell for $395 for the 1g and 2g are not the same as the set we have to send out and have machined for the EVO that we price for $480, the difference in cost is our machining and messing around with them.

Our 1g and 2g 3" downpipes actually cost more than our EVO downpipes, catbacks are the same price even though the EVO's cost us more to make. I/C pipes and FMIC's for the EVO's through us are also less money than they are for the 1g's and 2g's.

I think if you guys are getting ripped off on your EVO parts you are shopping at the wrong place.

You had me worried there for a moment! One of the reasons I was worried is that some of the stroker kits use STOCK RODS.... and I don't want to see someone using stock 2G Rods in a stroker kit. Not worth the money in my view, if you are doing a rebuild do it up right

Thats right Keith.. whoever even puts stock 2G parts in an Evo..

What I meant was 2G STYLE not 2G stock..

And for your info, Evo rods are NOT forged... They are still the very same CAST units found in the original Evo 1,2,3,4,5,6,7.. the only difference being the inclusion of reinforcement beads at the front sections of the rod body to give slightly better strength from the Evo 5 onwards..

But its true what Dave mentioned, the 2G pistons will not interchange directly but I have made them to fit but no issues with the rods though..

So, all the official Mitsubishi information about the rods being forged is incorrect?
