I've had a few dejon tool parts on my DSMs. All his parts are built from aluminized steel. He grinds down his MIG welds flush before the parts get powdercoated. The quality is okay. You get what you pay for.

Since the EVO stock IC piping is aluminum, I feel that going to stainless or powdercoated aluminized steel is downgrading. I love how light my Helix IC pipes are. Getting rid of all the rubber hoses actually saves a little weight!

Its made out of steal or maybe SS and powder coated. Too heavy and does not soak the heat as fast as aluminum.

Exactly, anything beside Aluminum on our EVOs is downgrading

I just called my friend and I told him that so far I have 10 people on the line and he said soon very soon. BTW this guy manufactures and fabricates many parts for vendors on these forums. Soon will have something out.

Hopefully within 1-2 months.. Otherwise I may have to go with the BR kit. I didn't even think about the types of metal used until reading this thread. Aluminum would be great to have

thx for the update

a few lbs isnt going to make much of a difference to me...i mainly bought it b/c it was color matched and i had seen a couple cars with the piece in person and it looked good...

as far as heat transfer goes...i understood that you would want something that DOESNT absorb heat...when a piece of metal transferring cool air on the inside that has extreme hot temps on the outside, you would want to DECREASE the heat transfer...so you wouldnt want the metal to absorb heat from the outside and transfer it to the air inside...that was my understanding but i could always be wrong...kind of like if you have a metal pan with cold water in it sitting on a hot stove...the metal absorbs the heat from the stove and tranfers it to the water...

either way the piece looks very nice...ill take pics when i get a chance...eventually i will wind up switching to a full IC pipe kit...but this will do for now

The pipe material should have a minimal impact on heat transfer to the air flowing through it. I calculated the air speed going through a 2.5" pipe at different flow rates:

Flow(CFM) Air Speed(ft/s)
250 135.43
300 162.52
350 189.61
400 216.69
450 243.78
500 270.87

I'd just pick the lightest material to save weight and let the intercooler take care of the cooling.

I just got an e-mail from the shop with some pictures (not polished yet but they look great)

They should be ready some time next week and will have a group buy (great prices).

Thanks
