How much oil will drain out if I just change the filter? I just changed my oil and I think I have a defective filter and I would hate to waste 20+ bucks on the oil I just put in.

If you have a clean oil drain pan, then why couldn't you pour it back in (barring the faulty filter didn't leave sediments)?

It seems that a minicule amount of oil is seeping from the top of of oil filter where it meets the block. Its an OEM filter, nothing drips outs, but sometimes when I run my finger around the lip where it meets the block there is a tiny amount of oil (very very little) on my finger. Am I being paranoid? It seems sometimes there is some there, sometimes not. Im not sure, I may just be over reacting. I thought maybe the seal was bad.

No, actually almost NONE of it will drain. Less than .25 quarts probably. You guys need to realize the spread of oil puddle that will be on the ground if you spill a whole quart. The filter won't even hold .25 quarts I bet.

I would just pour new oil in with the new filter. 20 bucks is no big deal for some peace of mind. No flame intended.

I changed only my filter since my oil wasn't due yet and 1/8th of a quart fell out.

So only whats in the filter will come out? I still have about 1/4-1/2 left in my jug left over from the change.
