turning up the boost on stock Evo

Will you feel a difference in power if you were to just install a boost controller and increase the boost on a stock Evo? I am not talking about increasing the boost to the max where the engine will blow up.

i think you will feel it in the top end, because you'll get rid of boost taper. i don't know how much you can really turn it up though on pump gas. stock is already 19.

If you installed a boost controll you could set it to about 19 and you'll notice it will pull harder to redline because of no more boost taper.

so for a complete stock Evo the highest and safest boost is 19psi?

With the stock intercooler most will say running 19psi to redline is about as far as you want to push the stock turbo on pump gas, With an upgraded intercooler 20 psi then falling to 19 since it will taper is about all you will want to run. Keep in mind as you upgrade you will need bigger injectors to run higher boost. If things are hooked up correctly you will not risk any damage.

For stock motor peaking 20 to 21 tapering to 19 works great...on 94 octane anyway.

I'm running 20psi on my stock evo (no boost controller) and if I go WOT its like somethings banging on my car, then it stops and continues to go faster and then happens again. Anyone know what this is?

Sorry to jack threads, I was just wondering if it was safe to run 20psi. Oh and my car doesn't taper.

If it sounds like a bolt being shook in a tin can that is knock and I would get it cheked out quick. If your cars slows down at the time you hear it the stock ECU is pulling a large amout of timing. If you can hear it I usually say it is severe. If you don't have any engine mods you should take it to the dealer and get it checked out if you do then get a boost controler and see if running lower boost helps to get rid of it. Are you using any kind of EMS or PiggyBack? Do you have an open air intake? If you do these can be your problem too if they aren't tuned correctly for the ARF's you are running.

It doesn't sound like a bolt shaking in a tin can nor does it slow down when I hear it. I can feel it more than I can hear it and this never happen when I had my HKS SSQV, it started to happen when I put my stock bov back on but I put my HKS bov back on last night and it stills happen.

I don't have any mods except for my hks bov, k&n drop-in filter and hks tt.

Sounds like you could just have a simple exhaust rattle or it could be somthing with the tranny/transfercase if you can feel it. It would be really hard to tell without riding in the car. But on a good note if those are the only mods you have put the stock bov back on and take it back to the dealer and have them check it out. It is probably somthing simple but it is better to be safe than sorry and to just get rid of it so it doesn't drive you crazy.

You can dump in some paint thinner into your tank (toluene) and it'll get rid of your knock...

I don't really like the dealership around here but I might give it a try. I'll try to change all my tranny/diff fluids and see if that helps.

Oh and this only happens past 70mph.

4-BNGR - So you think its knock? If so, where would I get some toluene and how much should I put in?
