So that must be why mitsubishi has a tsb telling delerships to use it in cars that have grinding issues. Get some better info. Dealerships now use synchromesh as the new evo tranny fluid.

One quick question that i wasn't sure if i understood from this thread....

Are the BG synchroshift and the GM synchromesh and the penzoil GL4-4 ALL THE EXACT SAME?????

And mine is used in racing applications quite often, so you people who use this synchroshift haven't had any problems when tracking your car with a scalding hot tranny?

use bg syncroshift in the tranny and redline shockproof in transfer case and rear diff. if you cant find bg syncroshift then use redline mt90.

I'm now using the RL light weight shock proof in the x-fer case and the same with RL friction modifier in the rear diff. with good results. I'm about to roll over 40k on the odometer on the car with all but 3k of that on straight Pennzoil Synchromesh... all seems well, shifts like butter cold... or super hot.

what about 3 quarts penzoil stuff, and 1 quart mt-90? i have a quart of mt-90 left over from my Z, and am waiting on Autozone to get sum of the penzoil stuff in.

its is 4 quarts in the tranny right? and is the redline shock stuff better than the stock dif fluid?

I'm reading this thread and on '05 EVO's the manual doesn't say GL-5 for the transfer or rear diff. It reads Mitsubishi LSD oil or equivalent. So is Shockproof ok then?? When I look at the tech papers at Redline the Heavy Shockproof is the only one not rated as a GL-4, GL-5, etc. Nor do any of their oils say "hypoid" in the classification. Is there something I've missed? The Shockproof lightwieght and Super Shockproof LW are GL-5 but still not "hypoid". Maybe that's not the concern?

Hell if I know,
Joey

Thread back from the dead

Get the LSD gear oil from your dealer for your front and rear difs. If you are unclear call Jon at Team Rip Engineering or John at Sheppard Racing.

Get it wrong and you'll be buying expensive parts. Redline to my knowledge is not a hypoid gear oil.

Follow your owner's manual when in doubt and make sure the dealer does too if you take your car to one for service.

No, try Royal Purple Max Gear 90, its a GL5 SAE90 hypoid gear oil.

The other Redline products (75W90, etc) are not suitable for the transmission because you need GL-4 and are not suitable for the transfer case or rear end because they are too thin.

So for the transfer case and rear end I recommend Royal Purple SAE90 (stock like fluid but "better") or just the stock SAE90.
Redline 75W90 is GL5 rated. Shep recommends redline products for evos and all dms's, especially heavy shockproof.

the GL-5 diaqueen LSD oil is all you should run in the rear diff and transfer case. in my MR tranny i run the only exact equivilent synthetic 75-85 GL-4 gear oil i could find, castrol syntorq LT repackaged for mopar as NV4500(diesel tranny)oil. it's much cheaper than the non synthetic super diaqueen multi gear that retails for about $85 a gallon.

I was previously using Motul then switched to Redline MT-90 because of loud 'clucking' noise when switching gears (esp. 2nd and 3rd). MT-90 did reduce the noise but now its back again; today i tried Redline ShockProof HEAVY which i think its 75/240 and the red oil is almost as sticky as grease. Less noise but i haven't really run in yet. Will post after 1000 miles.
