hey there. i know this is a super old thread. but i thought it was interesting.

i just recently took a trip to idaho (from washington) and while driving on teh freeway at about 75 my car started to studder and bog down. it felt like when your low on gas and your car starts to hunt for fuel. the car wouldnt rev up and when i did try to rev is would buck and surge horribly. it would still run, just not fast and not very well. i ended up limping the car down the freeway a bit and eventually got to an autozone. they said it was a cylinder 4 misfire.

i checked all my plugs (i had NGK iridiums) and they looked pretty old. so i got a new set and gapped them to .28. they werent anything special (autozone didnt have anything good) but they were good enough to drive around.

well anyway they worked ok for a few hundred miles (it was a 10 hour drive) but once i got back into my home town the car surged again while on the freeway. i didnt have anywhere to pull over so i popped it into 4th gear to keep the revs up and did my best to limp to a gas station. only this time i didnt throw a cel.

once at the station i opened the hood and checked damn near everything i could see. plugs... sensors... injectors... everything. and all looked fine. then i figure what the hey, i started it back up with some fresh gas into it and it drove just fine the rest of the way home.

this is pretty much the very short version of the whole story, but its the gist of what the car was doing. its really confusing to me how the car can be perfectly fine on minute and then all the sudden crap out repeatedly.

the car has minor mods but nothing special. it has 55k on the odo and i always run premium gas. boost is only 20lbs and i wasnt doing any hard driving. it was simply maintaining freeway speeds.

well anyway thats my story.
