Question HELP Service Engine Soon Light

How do I check error codes?
I went to the movies last night and came out and almost instantly threw a service engine soon light. All I have on the car is a turboback with 3" cat. Been on for months, no problems. Any ideas why I threw a cel? Fitment is good on the exhaust, any chance I burned out the o2 sensor? If so what does that look like?
If I pop the battery when will the light come back on? Can this tell me if it really is a problem, or can it just come on for dealer servicing since I have a lot of miles?

go to kragen or autozone and ask them pull out the error code to know what it is and they can clear it for you also.unplugging the battery takes the light off the the error is still recorded on the ecu.

which cat do you have anyways since some of them throws a cel at times.

It was really cold here for a few days. Then it warmed up, and it just threw one. So autozone can scan it and give me the code? What do they scan it with? Is it something that I can buy? Thanks,
Guess I'll be fixing as well as adding goodies over this weekend.
Just weird because the exhaust has been on for months and probably over 8k miles any only had a SES once when I hit a huge pothole and the exhausted twisted and was pushing on the o2 sensor. But everything looks fine right now.

my guess would be the drastic climate change. weather can have a great affect on the way modded cars run and react to things

Thanks, I'd like to know the error code but those scanners are expensive. Any cheaper ones? Or any other ideas on how to find the error code? The 3" cat is from RNR, with their turboback. So I'm hoping it is something to do with the second 02 sensor reading something incorrectly.

Most likely it was the P420 which seem to pop up with high flow cats during cold weather. I had a Helix HF cat for 6 months with no problem than suddenly P420 ses. I put the stock one back and had no problem since.

lack of cat sucks.

If you're not going to do the dynoflash or xede, you should get the dealership flash. That solved my lack of cat code along with p0300 code/misfire

I have a cat. 3". But I can't use the stock one because with the rnr downpipe and exhaust it is clamped on and not bolted together like stock.
It had warmed up a lot right when it went on.

I have the EZ-SCAN 5000, but I paid way more than auto-barn ! I love it, it can download data (real-time monitoring) to a laptop and firmware can be reflashed.

hey rpm-evo

when your light came on, did you notice a loss in performance in your car?

No, no real change in performance, but I haven't been hard on it since it came on, just in case is was something more than the 02 sensor.
ap-evo83 how long did you have your setup on before you got the 420i error? Was it on for months?
