service engine soon = loss of performance
its my understanding of this ses light that if and when it comes on, the ecu will go into a safe mode that decreases your cars performance. of couse this is to not to hurt the engine. what go you guys think?
it depends on the warning. If it's lack of cat, it's just visual warning where it's just letting you know, like seatbelt warning light.
But when you have something like fuel/ air/ boost CEL, then it'll goto safe mode, as it'll go into safe mixture of fuel/ air/ and boost.
ECU is constantly monitoring all the engine activities and that's all it does.
When your CEL light blinks, you're in trouble. The ECU will start cutting engine functions all together.

i thought it was any time this light came on that the ecu would go into safe mode.
doesnt matter what the problem. i didnt know that it could selectively choose safe mode regardless if the light has come on.

if your rpm isnt going past 4500 rpm, that means your boost is cut because your injectors maybe clogged....
or your fuel is cut, because something is wrong with your car. I would go see a dealer, because I think you're on a safe mode.
Does your car cut off like a fuel cut?

I had injector issues a while back and had the same problem you discripe. Also, if i hit around 80 while in that mode, the gas tank would just drain. It's all so you don't blow up your engine. If you have lots of mods and want to avoid the dealer till you have to, see any car shop and just have them run diagnostics. cost like 100 bucks most places.
Mine was cause when a friend of mine installed the rrm piggyback, they broke the wire to the injectors and the ecu read off bad injector controll pin and gave the number for needing a new ecu. Just incase you get the same thing. All i needed to do was run a new wire from the ecu to my injector control unit ( or whatever you want to call that part). Good luck
