CRX and 4g63
I too had a Civic before my Evo and it might have been slow in the quarter mile (couldn't tell ya a time because I never ran it in the 1320) but it was a monster up top and a very reliable sleeper that got great gas mileage. The b-series motor is the modern day 350 small block, there's almost no limit to what you can do with that motor and a well built one will walk just about anything on the highway. I love my Evo but there are days when I sit back and think about where my Civic would be now in terms of power if I would've kept it. Damn thing was nearly stolen three times though which was a huge headache.

running high 13's and occasional low 13's b16 will do.

are you serious ????
did you see the car weight to begin with from what i posted???? you advrege CRX can weight around 2000lbs , taking 200 off can be done
first of all several friends and i (used too) drag race honda's and a 1800lbs car with just a gsr b18c1 swap (tune near 178whp) will run high 12's on 13x8 M & H slicks.
Dr. Charles (use to owned Atomic Performance -long time ago, then worked for area 51 & help auto link) was one of the first ones to swap a K20a in to an EK (which weights near 2300lbs) the car with street tires and the parts that you need to make it work on a swap (custom header, intake and exhaust) not sure if he was running hondata flash at the moment ran the car and hit low 13.05's with street tires (he only made 2 passes) im sure he can manage even deeping into high 12's , imagine with slicks and less weight. Other guys running an EG w/ a K20 swap has hit high 12's runs. So is not impossible or difficult taking in mind that a CRX can be gutted out and weight at lot less then an EK.
Theres also a huge difference in TQ between a b16 vs b18 (near 20-25lbs) and from a b16 vs K20 -since the motor is a 2.0l (near 40-45lbs) which tq makes a huge difference on a car that doesnt weight as much.
i really don't understand the hate that some evo owners have for hondas. i own both... and i'll tell you that they are both great cars, but i'd get rid of my evo before i'd get rid of my honda.

I'll have to agree here. people get a bad impression of hondas...because there are so many out there that are poorly modified.
those light eg hatches can be very fast. there's a few low 12, high 11 sec honda around here that can/do make vettes look real bad.
big problem with the honda platform is fwd, it's a huge wall to get over for a street car.
Most people that hate on honda's are just uneducated. My friends 95 eg has a rs sleeved 2.0L ls/vtec with jun stage 3 cams and a full valve train. it's runing 12.7:1 cp pistons and eagle rods, and all the proper bolt ons. tuned with hondata. with full interior and a 180lb driver the car went 8.21 in the 1/8th. since then the car has been striped down. just a drivers seat and passenger seat, dash and center console. all the ac, powersteering compents are gone. no power anything. the track opens up in feb. I would expect the car to go High 7's with the most recent tuning and my friend who only weights about 140lbs that now owns the car. after I do cams and piggy back and few other small things. I'm gonna start on another boosted honda. I know for a fact for $7000, including the price of the car. I'll have an 11sec honda. and then once i do the engine work and what not. it'll be mid to low 11's. If my evo wasn't so damn incredible to drive and own. I sell it for another honda.

As for the engine swaps if you're only into strait line, H22 engine is your best bet. It's relatively inexpensive compared to the others especially K20 and it's only 40lbs heavier than the B16A.
Go over to honda-tech.com, those guys did just about any Honda swap possible.
Like naucrx said, if you wanna go turbo go B18C but expect to pay at least $6000-8000 for the whole setup which IMHO is way too much unless again again, you're (or your friend) a master mechanic and engineer so you can do lots of stuff at home, something like DIY.

it's call your friend blows at driving. it's kinda weird that you friend runs 14's with that setup and my friend with a very similar setup runs 12.8s. with full interior and now the engines in a striped down eg. hummmm??? I've got all the dyno's on my computer to prove it. It made 201whp tuned with hondata. I can show the 1/8th mile time slip where he ran 8.21(old setup, full interior).. we couldn't find his 1/4mile slip last time I was there. I will bet the car will go high 7's with the new setup and once he gets the head port and polish and a port matched intake manifold it'll go mid 7's.
