1. it can be a LS/Vtec set up B18a/b series block with a b16 head (similar as to a B18c5/ B18c ITR head except for valvetrain, valves, cams and a mild port and polish) which can be accomplish with a port n polish and aftermarket items.
2. if he had a gsr b18c1 alot of peeps buy a b16 because there cheaper then getting a gsr or itr head and you can get it port and polish and perform as much as any itr or gsr head with headwork as well.
The problem with lsvtec set ups is that you have to make sure you change the pistons other wise you can risk hitting a valve to piston
seen several peeps that take short cuts or dont have the funs to finish there projects and decide to run the set up at the track. They end up having a lousy performance which tuning is always the key to everything. or he can be a terrible driver

So don't hate on something you not very knowledgeable about. it's just like some domestic guys coming up to you and I with our evos and saying there slow pieces of crap, because they're 4cyl import cars. You and I both know our cars are decently fast and with a little money and modifications they can be real fast.

I definately agree with you on the LS1 with mods. but take into account the price of the car. it better respond good to mods. like I stated before for around 7-8k including the price of the car I can build an 11sec honda. that's pretty respectable,

see everyone says it happens but for everyone i know that has tried 3 of my friends a 99si 93 hatch with motor swap and a 94 GSR none of them where able to get 12/11 sec time slips. they are extremely rare in the area that im at

The world is a big place you know.
My civic on its low boost setting would run on your evo. without a doubt.

For you Honda doubters - You Chicago guys should come out to a Chicago SCCA Auto-x sometime and see Ed Locke's Street Mod Civic. Here's his reg page:

I've had a few rides in his car, I'm telling you, that motor in a CRX would be DEADLY.
The 4G63 thing's a neat idea though if you have some serious car skills (including being an electrical engineer to wire up the ECU) and time and $$. I did see a DSM 4G63 in a Hyundai Excel featured in SCC awhile back. It's actually an incredibly easy swap b/c Hyundai uses some mitsu engines. Can you say sleeper?
Edit: When I say "easy," that means for the technically inclined. As for me I'm just talkin outta my @$$

Here's the latter years weight; of course, with a bigger engine, the weight should increase a bit. The CRX can dip its weight as low in the mid 1700 lbs in the first year of its production.
IMO, it's a rolling death trap like the heavier Del Sol. Has anyone ever seen a fullsize truck clobber a metro HB? I have . . . the truck made an instant clean front cut out of the Metro.
