Ecutek
Ecutek
Has anyone else heard about the Ecutek engine managment for the EVO. I am looking to upgrade, and Forcefed out of livermore, said Ecutek has a piggyback unit that is about to release. It is very similar to the XEDE, but it doesn't use MAF, it uses MAP.
Anyone else know about it.

Ecutek will be releasing a reflashing system that will allow a tuner/shop to remap and reflash your ECU. We have been working closely with Ecutek very closely since their first WRX offering over two years ago. They offer a very good tool for tuners. It is not designed for end-user programmability much like the current reflash options on the market.
They are not releasing an add-on interceptor/piggy-back system like the XEDE, AFAIK.
Hope that helps,
Shiv

From what the local ecutek dealer I talked to had to say, it's similar to dynoflash, but superior. How it is superior wasn't really talked about too much, I'd think it's more dependent on an individual vendors ability to flash and tune.
Ecutek and eprom flashing seems more for the set-it-and-forget-it type of guy who wants a good tune for his setup that still desires to use the stock ecu for everything else. This is in contrast the the piggyback type of guy who prefers an SAFC if he's going to me making lots of little mods over time, or the standalone type of guy who is constantly making big changes and wants total control all the time over his setup. Take your pick, which guy are you?

The Ecutek products and platform is the most advanced and most amazing product imaginable. With my Subaru version its basically like turning the stock Subaru ecu into a fully adjustable stand alone ecu with full data logging. It will be very exciting to see how the new Evo platform works and what extra features and capabilities it adds over the current platform the Dyno Flash has. If they provide the end user tunability and map swtiching of the 2002 WRX platform and a delta dash data logger it will be great. Only draw back I have seen with Ecutek so far is the greater price structure which is no doubt a result of the vastly expanded functions, capability, customer support and product development. Simply put its the best fkashing platform you could imagine.
I am a dealer for Ecutek and I will continue to offer the existing Dyno Flash vo flash going forward as well.
Until the Ecutek product is released it is premature to speculate about its functions.

I think what Shiv meant was that it was good for the person that wants to get their car tuned and forget about it. Some people like to fine tune their cars or change maps. The ecutek is not made for home tuning so when you add more mods you will have to go to the shop to tune. It also costs more than a flash and you get a discount price everytime you go back to retune.
