idle issues
idle issues
I traveled from Chicago to Wyoming in my Evo this week, and the first time i had to fill up the 91 octane gas (My car has had 93 its whole life) it wouldnt idle. If i wasnt on the gas my car would stall. The times when it wouldnt die it would idle very rough around 300-500 rpms. I have a completly stock 2003 Evo and had no problems with my car the whole time until i put the crappy gas in it. I am thinking that it is the gas. Since there is no race gas or higher octane fuel, im off to the hardware store for some Xylene after work today.
i was thinking of trying that
just today it was 15 degrees with 45 mph winds and that isnt alright
ima try that tomarrow after work
i really hope i can figure this out, its not to fun drivin thru town with no idle, isnt too easy either
i was also thinking the 6500ft elevation wasnt helping but it first started in nebraska aka great plains

ok i disconnected my battery to reset my ecu and still no idle
then i went to ace hardware and bought some toulene and mixed around 1/2 gallon with 5 gallons of moble 91 octane
Then i drove around the holiday inn parking lot for 1.5 miles and when i stopped my car idled at 400 rpms very rough, but hey it didnt die, im going to try to reset my ecu again tommarrow.
Any ideas?
also my car is throwing no codes
Theres no mitsu dealer ship within miles of here (Rock Springs Wyoming) even tho i wouldnt want to take it to them, my car is still stock so it should be warrantied ....

hope it works out. we have to use this watered down stuff here in AZ, but there are a couple 100 octane spots here. i would maybe check with VP racing or a co where you can order some higher octane stuff. then you can take a 5 gallon jug to mix with in case you go on a roadtrip. maybe maybe not?
I would guess that it is probably the gas. I would use that up asap and put back 93 when you get back. Possibility, doubt it, but on your long road trip, there could have been a fault in your maf up front. It would probably throw a code, but maybe not. I know that if that thing gets out of wack the slightest bit, the car runs like ultimate crap. Also check and make sure your stock bov is still piped into the intake. I know that when I had hks bov my intake plug fell out and the car would barely run at all. Hope I could be of some help.
Well after mixing in the toulene which gave me a 93.25 octane level, it idles around 500-600 after driving it around for about 5 minutes. It still wont start without giving it some gas and holding the rpm's up for a few seconds. Ive checked my vacuum lines, intercooler pipes and they all look fine, everything is connected. Im throwing no codes,
