Anatomy of a buildup: Mild to wild in 72 hours!

A good customer of ours purchased a 2003 EVO GSR on Tuesday. He's been waiting for this a long time and already had his plans in place. While we were originally going to do some mods here and there over the course of a couple of months, he happened to change his mind.

We started working on the car at 10AM this morning. All parts were ordered in the last two days. When we started the car was bone stock except for an AEM intake.

The current mod list is as follows:

RNR GT35R Turbo Kit
- Equal Length Manifold
- GT35R w/ .63 ex. housing
- RNR Frontmount
- 4" Intake
- RNR Turboback
HKS 272 Cams
Walbro Fuel Pump
780cc Injectors
AEM EMS, WB02, 3.5bar Map, and IAT

The goal is to have the car running and tuned on Sunday. Ryan from RnR is headed North from San Diego as we speak - hopefully we'll have the kit in hand around 6PM. After that, it's an all night push.

Many updates to follow, I'll fill in some of the details below.

Alright, some pics and dyno to start it off.

Stock as can be.

Motor post cam install. Wish I would have documented this, but we werent' planning on doing our 72 hour install fest before.

The first testing. Blue is the car completely stock, red is with the addition of HKS 272 cams only (no gears, no other changes). Decent gains concidering.

Next update we should have the kit in hand (where are you Ryan?) and most of the car in pieces.

Stay tuned...

Time for the 8:00 update, and it's a good one. The guys are now installing the kit and the fuel system into the car. They seem to think this will be done tonight...

For all the "I just wet myself comments" - I hear ya

The good ol' stocker

Fittin's and hoses

Ready for some lovin

I still can't get over the stock oil-cooler, that's just crazy.

New frontmout and old.

Lots of piping. We had RnR weld in a huge resonator to keep the noise down (or try)

Old parts thrown aside... maybe they'll find there way onto the shop 240??

Great shot of the awesome RnR headers.

Special thanks for Ryan from RnR for driving 3.5hrs to get us the kit quickly. Awesome service, awesome parts!

More updates coming through the night (or tomorrow...)

So beautiful. Glad we were able to help. I'm glad we set that kit aside for you a while ago, so now you have it when you needed it most.

Is it just me but on a Dynojet are those 272's dynoing awfully low. 5 torque, and I believe it was 16 hp? I thought it was a bit more, like 28 hp. Maybe I am wrong, dunno. Or was it because it wasn't tuned yet?
