Best Evo Power mod of 2005, from Buschur Racing
I just spent the evening tuning with the Godfather of 4G63, David Buschur, at Buschur Racing in Ohio. What a blast. I tell you Dave really knows
and I learn a lot being around him.
Its been exactly one year since the Buschur Flash was created at Buschur Racing and I can still remember the amazing experience I had when I was at Buschur's shop last year watching and learning as we spent an entire 8 hours staight on the dyno
After a year of development of evo parts at Buschur Racing, I returned to work on some new maps for some new products which they have developed. There is a lot of exciting things they have in the works over there that I was able to check out, bigger throttle bodies, extrude honed intake manifolds, header heat shields, ported exhuast manifolds, coated 10.5 hotsides, and many more exciting products
However, there is one in particular that I wanted to mention as it truely amazed me and opened my eyes to a whole new level of performance for evos
We tuned a Stage 4 BR500 ball bearing equiped evo tonight with the new ALCOHOL INJECTION kit froim Buschur. It is very well designed and stealth the way it bolts right into where your stock intercooler sprayer tank goes. The electronics all go in the fuse holder under your left lower dash. Its a very well crafted and put together kit which includes a boost switch that only activcates the system at 20 psi and warning indicators for when the sweet juice is running low.
The results on this kit were simply amazing.
BTW - as an aside, the BR500 has alao come a long way with the new ball bearing option. Basically its a GT30 turbo and it kicks major *** compared to the non ball bearing BR500. This car was very, very fast for a pump gas car.
With the Buschur Flash, previously we were running 20 psi on 93 - 94 octane.
With the injection on, the car was holding 26 psi (estimated 50- 55 whp more than 20 psi ) on the same pump gas - AND - I was able to add 3 full degrees of ignition timing to the tune (estimated additional 30 whp) without a trace of knock. It is the most stable and knock free I have ever seen any evo run without race gas.
I am estimating a total power gain of approximately 80 - 90 whp on pump gas using the alcohol injection kit on the BR500 equipped turbo.
I strongly recomend this system to anyone running pump gas, its a very effective tool that will allow you to make huge power gains safely.
I will be providing custom tuning support for all Dyno Flash users and will tune your car for the new Alcohol Injection system at no extra charge at the time of any custom tune. At this time, I am unable to offer a through the mail flash to support this system but in a few weeks I should have enough research and base maps to provide through the mail tuning for this kit.

My concern with this sort of set-up is reliability. It's like running nitrous in a way. Everything has to work perfectly in the system or BOOM!!!
Having the resevoir run dry is only one thing that could make the system stop working. Before relying on anything like this, I'd want to 100% understand all of the potential failure points and feel comfortable that they were all addressed either through adequate warning systems or a sufficient understanding of them so as to allow me to inspect the most vulnerable points in the system on a regular basis as part of my regular maintenance regimen (like checking the oil).
But, if I could get comfortable with the system, then it would be fantastic to be able to turn up the boost on pump!

All I can say is holy crap; if there is pump gas fairy, I meet her last night! First some background info on the car: to date running a full BR Stage 4 with 264’s, BR Stage 3 head, a mail-in BR Flash the car has been running consistent 11.90’s on 100 Octane unleaded and 23psi. I have logged about 3000 miles on the car in this configuration and have gotten quite accustomed to the power level of the car. After having a noisy first gear I had Jon from TRE rebuild the transmission to his race spec Trans (super sweet trans) and at he same time we put in the BR500BB turbo.
The plan was to have Al put a custom pump gas tune on the car for this winter and then bump up the boost this spring when Speedway gets the 100oct back at the pump (they switch the pump to K-1 in the winter) and turn the boost back up to 23 and have some real fun. Everything was going on plan: meet Al @ Buschur's on Friday night and get the custom tune and be on my, but things never go quite as planned! I had read a few of the posts from Dave on his new Alcohol injection and the ability to run 25psi on pump gas with it…hum could be just the ticket for the BR500BB sweet spot? Talked to Jarrod at BR and made the appointment to have them put one in before Al tunes it. Just so you guys know this is one nice looking unit, uses the factory intercooler spray bottle, a nice interface to adjust flow and give some feedback on when the unit is spraying or if the tank is getting low. They mounted in the little change door down by the drivers left knee, which is perfect for me as I want the car as stealth as possible.
Friday night Al gets there and we go over the plans of the car so he knows what to tune for and he is ready to go. Since Dave is there and this is Al’s first tune with the BR Alcohol kit, Dave decides to drive and Al can tune. They head out to get the car tuned on the back roads of Ohio, the plan was to tune the car to 19psi and pump gas. All goes as planned, they return, Dave and Al comment the car is strong and seems to like a lot of timing even on pump gas. Nice, glad to hear I got a good one. Now the fun begins, Dave hooks up the Alky injection and off they go into the night! Time passes and they return, Al gets out of the car kind of wide eyed, jumping up and down that I need to take the car for a ride, Dave comments that the car is really strong and I should be real happy with it. Having a 4-hour drive home, I pass on the test trip, pack up my computer and get ready to go. After more prodding from Al and Dave I decide to take the car for a short run, not knowing the back roads Dave has one of his guys go with me. We head out to a nice straight road for the test…drop down to first and hit it, wow first is gone pretty fast, get second and it rips through like nothing, same for third, then fourth go goes by so fast that I almost hit the rev limiter (7800). Dang this thing is fast, turn around and do it all over. This time I let the car run out 7800 in first, second and third to see how it does. Wow, very smooth and never stops pulling.
I get back to the shop and Al wants to know how it goes, I tell him the car is fast and I am very happy with it. I can tell Al was thinking I might be a little slow b/c the car is more then fast, it is just plain brutal. I let Al know I am used to running 9.90 S/G cars in the past so it takes a lot to get me jumping up and down. Well I call it a night, thank Dave, Big AL and the rest of guys at the shop and get on my way.
As I am heading home, I prod the car a few times and the reality of how truly fast the car is starts to set in. Once I get to the turnpike I get a chance to run thru the gears without the fear of hitting a dear or some Rednecks doing donuts in the middle of the road (Al and Dave will have to explain that one) the whole picture falls into place. Holy crap this car is just plain stupid fast! Not pump gas fast but full on race gas fast! Now remember my reference is a daily driving 11 second Evo and now this thing pulls so hard in third gear it is mind bending.
Al’s tune is super smooth, really nice response on tip in, builds boost smoothly and rips to 7800 rpm, also idles better then it ever has before. Now the truly amazing thing about this car is this is ALL DONE ON PUMP GAS! No more race gas for me (well I will at the track just for safety but the boost will stay at 25psi) I think this combo of Al and Dave’s magic is going to change the way a lot of people look at the capabilities of the Evo.
Oh yea, I almost forgot the best part! Sitting at the local diner for lunch, I overhear the cook and a server talking about how it got a little “outa hand last night”. Apparently the night before at the dinner (possible the same bar top I am eating my hamburger from) the night ended with a midget cowboy dancing on the bar naked just before being pummeled by several unapproving “locals”.

On the stock turbo the injection kit would also allow you to run much higher boost - say 24 - 25 psi peak palling to 21 at red line along with about 3 degrees of ingition advance both of which should yield at least 30 - 40 whp
The most significant gains of course would come for the guys running 91 octane fuel.
On guys with the 91 octane the aclohol will allow you to run the same tuning as we usually run on the 100 octane!
OR - a neat idea you could run with a 91 octane tune most of the time and the alcohol off - but when you want to . . . With a EBC you could switch to high boost and turn on the Alcohol injection on the flyw and pick up an extra 30 whp at the flick of a switch !
The crapier the gas the better this will work
