I also have the injen cai. For awhile they had the only cai that came with a hard pipe for the intercooler. By the way, I have 272's and personally love the way it idles.

I've got the 272's. The idle is badazz. I am amazed at how many compliments I get on it.

Supporting mods: Aem cam gears(-4in & -1.5ex), 780 inj, 255 fuel pump, Utec w/map switch, RnR 3" intake and TBE w/hfc, Hallman MBC, Works throttle body, Defi bf gauges w/control link.

Bump --

What are the gains going from 264s to 272s on the turbo with typical bolt ons?

I just went from 264's to 272's last Thursday. They are night and day from each other IMO. 272's are just fine for the stock turbo, but I'd say 280's would shine with a bigger turbo.

My car idles lumpy and rough, but I don't mind it. Al from DynoFlash can actually tune 272's to idle normal if you wanted him to. I had my 264's like that. You couldn't tell that I even had cams. Now you can.

272's make the car a monster throught the mid and top end. The 272's do everything my 264's did and then some. My car feels a little laggier right now, but I'm sure once it gets tuned agian that car be resolved.

Now that I'd done the swap, I'd recomend 272's to anyone with a stock turbo.

Read Silver Surfer's cam timing thread and then read Ted B's threads on cam timing. It will take a while, but those threads will answer questions you didn't even know you had.

Is this with cam gears and if so what are your settings?
Under what RPM does it feel laggy?

the cams that make the MOST POWER are the Tomei 280's with 11.8 lift. if you like HKS, then get the HKS 280's with 11.5 lift. u will need cam gears, valve springs/guides, retainers, lifters, head bolts, & a new head gasket to prevent "lifter tick" & other issues that go along w/cam installs. i would even throw in a Cosworth built head so that the entire head is fully built. then get a tune & you will have massive topend power all the way to at least 9K rpm...

Thumbs up

a fuel pump, fuel rail, & at least 720CC injectors won't hurt either & will add to the safety margin to keep things from blowing up. u might want to grab a wideband O2 & slap that on too. it will make it easier to dial in your A/F ratio...

housedj, sounds like a sick mod list, but also a little pricey to me.
272s are perfect for the evo unless you want a lot of low end grunt....but if that's what you wanted, why did you buy an evo?? w/ a good tuner, you can keep nearly all of your lowend power and have a monster up top, i bought my 272s yesterday and have a few friends running them currently.

- HKS cams do not have 11.5 lift
- fuel pump is a very good idea
- everything else is overkill if you're still on the stock turbo

If you have the XEDE, you don't really need a wideband (other than for your own peace of mind), since the base maps are very good to begin with. You also do not need larger injectors ... they will complicate things greatly ... and again are really not needed unless you go to a bigger turbo.

My mods are:

HKS rs intake
Helix dp
HKS 272's
HKS carbon-ti
walbro 255
HKS evc-v ebc
custom reflash from DynoFlash for my 264's....

When Al tuned my car, we were on the side of the road and he told me my car was idling like ****. He asked if I wanted my car idle normal and I told him that was fine. He pecked at his laptop for a moment and all of sudden my car started idling like normal. It kinda took me by surprise.

I will be getting my car retuned again sometime down the road. I'm waiting on the word if I'm gonna get a TME or not. If not, then I'll be getting the 10.5 hotside and a 02 housing to go along with it.

My car feels a little laggier when in first gear. Only a few hundred RPM's slower, but once it spools it goes and boost seems to "stay on" in between shifts like normal.
