Unhappy want new 6th gear

ok so i know the car is set up for racing or a reasonable facsimilie thereof but honesthly how many of us race in top gear? im hoping maybe one of you might know where i can get a larger 6th for my MR, for highway driving to bring down the rpm's? also to any of you technical experts is this possible?

thanks

So you are just looking for a taller 6th gear?

I feel the same way... I would have thought the 6th gear would have been crazy long to help gas mileage but at 60mph my rpms are at 3500 or above... I figured it would be lower than that

if your rpms are at 3500 or above you're not in 6th gear. My MR runs a steady 3100rpm at 70mph. ~2600 at 60 IIRC.

Also, lower rpms don't necessarily mean better gas mileage.

LOL. I would have to agree. My 03 will do 70 at 3000rpm's exactly.

If 6th was taller, chances are you'd be under a heavier load at cruise, and therefore in boost and using more fuel. Like bolsen said above, just because you are at a lower RPM does not necessarily mean you will get better fuel economy. Right now I cruise at 70 with a slight vacuum, any load (hill, etc...) and I'm immediately in boost and using fuel quickly.

YMMV,
Greg

I love my 6th gear, it's like another fifth. Couldn't be happier.
