Are reflashes worth it?
I have a SAFC and im pushing just about 275 to the wheels with everything i have done, no problems and it doesnt run lean, I was wondering if reflashes are worth the money. Most of the places i look at for the decent tunes they are around 300-400 for a full reflash. Any help would be great full
I also have an SAFC and was wondering the same thing. From reading some of David Bushcur's posts I'm guessing they are. From working with Al from Dynoflash, I think he is switching from the SAFC to the flash methods. Besides, it might be worth it just so you don't have the SAFC in when you take it to the dealer. I've heard they don't look to highly at it and they normally can't detect a flash unless they are looking for one. I'm eventually going to get a flash after my cams go in, but I'll probably keep the SAFC for some rough adjustments when I add more mods until I can get reflashed again.

If that is the thread I'm thinking of the problem with the immoblizer came from that person switching ECU's. He traded his ECU for one that had been reflashed and was taking it in to the dealership to have the key programmed to work with that ECU. Thats how the dealership knew something was up. As long as it's your ECU you get flashed it should not affect the immobilizer.
Yes, the reflash is worth it. Even with an S-AFC and boost controller you still have no ignition timing control. Plus the factory ECU controls boost better than most boost controllers.

I have done well over a 1,000 evo flashes without incident in this manner.
If you change the ecu - this is when you eed to have the new ecu programed by the dealer to match your imobilzer and key codes which takes them abot 15 minutes and should cost avbout $50 - $75.

With the SAFC you can make decent peak power but the adjustment of the a/f ratio requires you to attentuate the maf sensor signal which results in running into low boost zones in the ignition timing map under full boost which are way to adavnced ign timing. Lean a/f and too much timing makes trhe ecu pull out timing in an uneven manner and leaves you with the classic rough bumpy afc power band.
The flash gives you a much greater control and a factory quality smooth tune.
