I checked out evomoto.com to see where they mount the probe but I am not sure if that is the best place to mount it?

Yes it is the best place. BTW dont be lazy like them, take the manifold off and drill it. That way you're 100% sure that no pieces of metal get into the turbo.

Mostly due to the fact that it's the most accurate place to get a good reading, cuz its as close u can get to the head. The exhaust gases lose more and more heat as it travels down the exhaust system.

Hope this helped out.

I guess I'm real lazy, mine is stuck in the bung that came on my Tanabe downpipe. I have heard of the manifold cracking and don't want the hassle, even though I've heard it is better to read the #3 because it is the first to lean out.

I had mine in the downpipe and moved it to the manifold. The temps in the downpipe fluctuated too much and it was impossible to compare with others as too what is safe or dangerous. I do believe that it is possible to safely drill the manifold. I took a tennis ball and drilled a 1/4 inch hole in it then attached a 3" piece of 1/4 inch plastic tubing to the ball. I stuck the tennis ball in the shop vac hose and thoughly vacumed out any shavings that made there way into the manifold. I also used compressed air to blow out the shavings prior to breaking through. It worked great and I did not hear any shavings go through the turbo when I started the car.
